It isn't my cottage and it isn't my company - I only work there and certainly don't make the policies!

Common practice in holiday industry however, as with many other businesses. Probably very unfair as you say, but the latecomers are taking a risk I suppose.

Met the owner of this cottage recently and have noted that I'd like to go there sometime! By River Derwent in Belper.

Probably a bit more expensive than you want (as bit bigger) and is Wed-Wed booking. But does have the wi-fi.

Ebay is always worth a try especially for last minute bookings.

We won an auction for £53 for a 7-night let for a cottage in Scotland in September 2008. The auction ended at 9pm on the Friday night and we were packed and on the road by 7am the following morning. That was very last-minute, but what a bargain including electric and towels and bedding.

We've had many other auction bargains under £200 for cottages sleeping minimum of 4 for 7-night lets over the years.....you just need to be flexible and quick at planning and packing. One was a farmhouse sleeping 9 for £195 in 2010.

Obviously you rarely get school holidays or bank hol weeks at these prices but it can happen.
