Talk Talk Mac Code

Hello:mad:
The trouble i am having is i have my line rental and calls with talk talk, i want to add broadband but it comes up with tags on the line from Tiscali so need a mac code to get them removed.Guess what talk talk took over tiscali so it should be easy getting them removed, no i get sent from one person to another round and round in circles .The only way around this would be to get a new line from talk talk .Do you think this would solve the problem or are there hidden traps to watch out for............thanks
Nice to save.

Hidden traps? Yes - having TT in the first place. ;)
  • I was originally with Tiscali then by default due to takeover, with Talk Talk. I xferred my calls to another provider shortly after due to disssatisfaction, but left broadband with Talk Talk due to email tangled registrations.
That was all they were providing. I've eventually resolved those and rang TT on 24/03 to request MAC persevering through pressure talk that they could give better deal £wise - which was probably correct. However, speed and service they couldn't/wouldn't improve - not unless i paid extra of course!
Same day ordered winter deal package with BT (yes i know comparison sites might say there are cheaper providers at first glance, but they often dont compare like with like and this came out on top, and i did do proper research for the package which meets our needs). BT advised of expected order completion once they had MAC.

TalkTalk emailed MAC on 26th (best service i've had from them!) so that was pretty prompt. No idea why you are getting the run around Nellybee.

BT router arrived early on designated date 2nd April, and once internet stopped around midday, it was a quick 10 minute job to swap routers over, and set everything up.

You don't need a MAC to clear tags on the line. They can be cleared by the incoming provider, but it often takes around 3 weeks to do so as they have to attempt to contact the old customer.
Needles to say, any competent ISP can do this without too much trouble. With TT, it's another ball game entirely, as the level 1 staff won't have a clue.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

to be fair to TT I was with them for many years and had few issues.
OP head over to http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/ & post it up there, TT staff are on there and are normally really helpful with getting things sorted

    because there are tags
    http://www.ispreview.co.uk/new/complain/common_isp_complaints_tag.php

"Tag on Line is an issue that can occur for consumers who are buying broadband for the first time or have just moved into a new property. Consumers may be advised by their ISP that there is a ‘tag on the line’ and that it will need to be removed before the new order can be progressed, regardless of whether or not you have a migration code (MAC). In some instances, your new broadband provider may need your help. This may require you to contact your old provider or arrange for an incompatible product (not necessarily related to an internet service) to be removed from your line.

Tags can occur for a variety of different reasons and, in the majority of cases, the new ISP is best placed to investigate and fix the underlying cause of the Tag, on the consumer’s behalf and, if necessary, liaise directly with BT Wholesale/Openreach to have the Tag removed (normally completed in 10 working days, but many are often fixed within 24 hours). The name, address and alternative contact number of the end user should be provided. Under Ofcom’s regulations, broadband providers must do all they can to help customers switch.

Tag’s usually occur due to an error by the previous home owner (didn’t cancel their broadband service properly) or ISP (service goes bankrupt etc.), which fails to remove a marker that identifies a specific service as having control of the connection. If your new provider is unwilling to investigate the reasons for the tag, you may wish to consider an alternative ISP."
