Travelling with a lap-top

I am planning to take a lap-top computer on my travels in Europe, and would appreciate any advice about internet access as a means of communicating with home. I have an web based e-mail account with BT Yahoo. I will be staying on camp sites, so will not have access to any facilities offered by hotels, but I have heard that some sites have wi-fi facilities. Do I need to purchase software and/or subscribe to any service? How does it work? How much does it cost? Is there a "best" provider?
Thanks for any help.

Hi, yep wi-fi is often readily available certainly where we've been - even all the way through to Turkey. If you're staying in one place for a "long time" maybe a local sim card/data package could be cheaper but if you're travelling wi-fi access usually only costs 1 or 2euros for a session.
Our experiences have taught us to invest in a good laptop bag/case and ensure the machine travels flat. Expensive lesson that was!
Best advice of all is to really really enjoy yourself. Travelling is great.0
