Is there a particular reason why the wiper blade on the passenger side was shorter than the 1 on the drivers side. Just curious as to why. Car in question is a 206, id replaced the blades a few years ago with 2 of the same length and didnt really occur to me to buy 1 shorter than the other.

I understand the longer 1 on the drivers side clears a wide area of the windscreen for visibility puposes but why a shorter 1 on the passanger side.

It's to stop them tangling up, one will move further and faster than the other, if they're the same length then they overlap and collide with each other.

On Peugeots, it's worth noting that the wipers park and sweep from the wrong side (arrogant French designers), so they sweep from rest right to left. The drivers side needs to sweep a larger area because otherwise it'd leave a huge area in the top RH corner that wasn't cleaned (due to the design flaw mentioned above).
The LH side wiper arm is longer than the RH side because in Europe it would be the passengers side

In trying to make them reach full sweep at the same time, the mechanism has to pull the larger (LH) wiper arm at a higher speed, so if the RH wiper overlaps, it'd get ripped clean off.

See below how in the first image (tandem system), the right side gets the benefit of 2 wipes, the other gets only one. On Peugeots the driver sits on the left of that image, on all/most others the driver sits on the right.....
It's clear that the wiper on the left has a lot more work to do, thus gets a larger blade.

Yes i noticed when i first got the car all them years ago that the wipers were the opposite way to a fiesta i used to drive.

So you would recommend buying a set with 1 shorter than the other(like they were in the first place)

The current wipers have been fine and dont clash

^^ You can get around it by adjusting the wiper arms to avoid them colliding.

I assume you fitted 2 of the smaller size? else you'd have some overlap above the windscreen on the (getting confused now) LH side.

A larger wiper in the correct place would give a few inches better visibility.

If they work, and clear the screen of whatever is on it,and it it gets through the MOT I wouldn't get too excited until they need replacing.

If you had fitted two large ones I am surprised they don't "catch", take it the 21.5" blade is smaller than the offical larger blade as Strider suggested?

It isn't so much arrogance, more complete contempt for the British buyer.

The wiper position is but one example of the European (and especially French) manufacturer practice of spending as little money as humanly possible on the LHD-RHD conversion. This leads to ergonomic nightmares, reliability problems and potential safety issues such as the one highlighted here.

It is the main reason I'd never consider a small French car (the bigger ones seem to have more effort put into the conversion).

Should be 19" and 26", with apparently the 26" being for the UK passenger side (the French driver side). So yeah your 21" is somewhere in between.

    Either way :)

The wipers do need replacing though, thats why i asked about the lengths eg why 1 shorter than the other.

    Honestly they dont catch

Err, my car is a Peugeot and it sweeps from left to right - not as previously suggested.

Just checked how the wipers are positioned and its the tandem position whereas the 207 is the other way round.
