Have you tried some bone marrow? My dogs absolutely love bone marrow! You can get it fresh from the butchers.May Grocery Challenge : 64.81 so far

our vet suggested cooking and then mashing vegetables and then freesing inside the kong, mine get bubble and squeak (potato and veg mashed together - then fry off but i dont fry it for the dogs)
when frozen i find this doesnt make a mess cos it doesnt thaw out runny, also the puppies have normally eaten it before it gets time to defrost
like others i also put peanut butter then stuff with raw carrot or their kibble.
Keeps them entertained and happyMy beloved dog Molly27/05/1997-01/04/2008RIP my wonderful stepdad - miss you loads:Axxxxxxxxx:Aour new editionsSenna :male: and Dali :female: both JRT0 -
I've occasionally scrambled a few eggs with water instead of milk, bunged up the hole in the Kong with a bit of cheese, propped the Kong upright in a pyrex jug and then microwaved the whole Kong so that the raw egg scrambles inside of the Kong itself - easier than trying to syphon scrambled egg inside and it's a bit tougher as it's not so loose in there. Do allow time for it to cool down though!
What a brilliant idea! I'm definitely going to try this, thank you.
I usually use PB, chunks of cheese, hot dogs and salmon paste (in the jars, it's one of the only ones that doesn't seem to have onion in it.)
I usually make up a mix then put it in the freezer. Can't say I'd eat it myself, but the dog loves it!0 -

Watch out if you are putting meat in it. I put meat in one and forgot about it after one of the dogs rolled it under the coffee table. My friends dog came round a few days later and was desperately trying to get at something under the coffee table. It was the kong I had forgotton about so I dragged it out and flung it on the sofa out the way.
Later on it was flung on the floor when I noticed something move on the floor. The kong was filled with maggots and they were also all over the floor, the sofa and the fleece throw that had been on the sofa. My living room seemed to be full of the wriggly beasts and it took ages to get rid of them all.
I was really glad that my friends dog found the kong though as it would have been far worse if a swarm of bluebottles had whoooshed up in my face if it had been left another few days.
I have never used meat in them since. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
I bought the Kong stuffing- once! How expensive it is!
I use PB, beef paste, and Sainsburys own label pate. It's only 58p for a tub, and lasts for a good few days (got a puppy kong for JRT pup, and a medium kong for the Staffy) It 'moulds' well round the hole.
I tend to put little treats (Pedigree chum cheesy bites) in there then seal the hole with the pate. Keeps them happy for a good old while.
But 10 quid for the bottle of stuffing? never again! The whole cost for over a weeks worth of my stuff was £2.50. Bargain!:DRuaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

Be very careful using processed products. This isn't about the sugar/salt/etc. (which may be a problem), but that beef pate you're using contains onions.
Pork Liver (32%), Pork Fat, Water, Pork (10%), Pork Rind, Potato Flour, Salt, Pasteurised Free Range Egg, Glucose, Wheat Flour, Spices And Spice Extracts (Pepper, Coriander, Nutmeg, Cardamom, Ginger, Paprika, Chilli, Cinnamon), Milk Proteins (Whey Based), Dried Onion, Antioxidant: Ascorbic Acid; Preservative: Sodium Nitrite.0 -
The amount of onion in it would be very small presumably - less than the salt, the glucose, etc, it's below even the spices in quantity. I imagine dog would need to consume serious amounts of the pate to get the kind of dose of onion that would cause the associated anaemia - and an upset stomach from all that liver and fat would probably be apparently before the toxic dose of onion was reached.0

When my vet suggested garlic or garlic tablets as a natural flea protection, also as its good for the heart, I queried this as onions are supposed to be bad for dogs, and garlic is onion family, she said it was only if onions were fed in large quantities. Garlic, in the qualtity I would be giving was fine so presumably onions in that sort of quantity would also be fine.0
