Lpg ?

Hi all,
Just going to buy a property with LPG cylinder in garden, the suppliers of gas are a company called "Flogas" reading on the forum, it seems LPG is an expensive system, although most of the information is from 2008, have things changed??

    Hi,

If anything since 2008 things have gotten much worse with LPG, it basically follows the increases in petrol/diesel, i think i am paying about twice what i was in 2008! especially as i am stuck with flogas (who happen to be the worst of a bad bunch)
You can however buy bottles from whoever you want, or have a bulk tank installed instead.

In the long run if you buy the place think about trying to get either natural gas installed, or look at a heat pump system instead.

    Welcome to the forum.

Yes, LPG is expensive. For relative costs for heating see Notts Energy Partnership - here.

The info re cylinders is recent - there's a thread called 47kg Propane Calor Gas ...: here.

And there's a thread about Bulk LPG - Cheapest suppliers / supply route?..... where the most recent post was 9.45pm last night! Here. This thread is a sticky - so it's always at/near the top of the board - so posts are easy to find (just use the 'Search this Thread'). As you say, Flogas has the reputation as the worst major supplier.

People will advise you to diversify from LPG - or even ditch it entirely if you can. Some links from here (which will save people posting the same info all over again!).

I'm surprised you couldn't find much posted after 2008 - as sk240 has written, things have probably got worse (even if the Competition Commission Orders aimed to free up the 'market'). The wholesale price has increased appreciably (see graphs here) - and retail price more so as most people rent tanks which ties them into a 2-yr exclusivity supply contract .. and prices from the major suppliers which rarely (if ever) decrease - which is why you'll read recommendations to buy from (local) independents, if you can.

Maybe further posts in the Bulk LPG .. thread? (i.e. Post Reply here)... then we don't lose them as it's the only Bulk LPG sticky.
