Pick-up item not as described

I bought a bike on ebay last weekend, when I picked it up I noticed it had some scratches and the basket was a bit damaged but I thought it was ok.

When I got home i looked at the pictures on the ebay advert carefully , and I think I got a different bike.. the pictures show a perfect basket with a handle that mine does not have, also no scratches at all, and even the lock on the bike is a different colour! (the seller said he lost the key, which really doesn't matter as the lock wasn't mentioned as part of the sale)

I emailed the seller with my concerns but he says the bike is exactly as in the picture (which obviously is NOT, no doubt about this) and I shouldn't have taken it if I wasn't happy. He refuses to give me any explanation about the discrepancies and doesn't even want me to send him pictures.

What should I do? I didn't want to leave a bad feedback as I'm reasonable happy with the bike, but is it too much to ask for an explanation of why the pictures are SO different? Or am I being unreasonable here?

if you are happy with the bike why do you need an explanation? it won't change anything. (sorry if that sounds a bit rude, I don't mean it to be)

I'd probably leave a neutral if the description is misleading and he hasn't bothered to answer your questions.

No, it's ok. The bike works ok but I feel a bit cheated... that's why I would like the explanation.

It doesn't sound as though he's going to give you one, so you can leave appropriate stars for description & mention in the FB that the pictures appear to be of a different bike.

He could have used another seller's photo of a similar item - I'm often amazed by how lazy people can be!

I'm pretty sure by looking at the background the pictures were taken where I picked up the bike, so they are real pictures.. just of a different bike!

Could pictures of the bike have been taken under electric light? This would make colours look different, then if its been used after the picture has been taken and say if someone fell off and scuffed the basket and bar (which seller may have removed if badly damaged). The seller may have tried to tidy it up and pass it off as though nothing has happened. Wrong but they may be embarrassed its been used after it was posted as for sale.

Did you buy a bike or a basket for a bike?

And just to confirm, you picked it up, you inspected it, you were initially happy with it, you paid for it, you took it home, you then decided it wasn't right, and for this the seller is likely to get marked down?

NO... all I said is that the bike is ok (nothing broken, but cosmetic damage, the basket is an example).

But I think the seller is being dishonest putting a picture of something that's not what they are selling... I'm an ebay seller myself and wouldn't do this, it's just wrong...

I'm not gonna leave a bad feedback because as you said it was my decision taking the bike, but I might leave a neutral one. Wouldn't do this if I got an explanation of why the picture is different, but they don't want to do this either, so they are cleary lying to me now.
