    I would if the room is there, and having back up in different formats can be a good thing, also keeping them in different locations.
    Backing to cd doesn,t want to play ball. I select the Rw e, but it just auto goes to D. ignores my instuctions ;
    keeps asking me to select times etc, no need for immediate back up to disc.just starts backing to D auto, even when I switch it off.
    The first thing it does is goes to D auto, even, stopping. and changing to Rw E, doesn,t stop it going to D.My history repeats itself. :rotfl:

    Hi, that,s why I can get it on cd. No good backing up all the crap , just what I don,t want to lose.pics, certain docs.The free Mozy allowance was adequate enough for what I required. Just wondered about Windows asI have never used it before. Should I just let it back to D weekly, there,s nowt else on D, and C is 66% free, so that shows you how much I save;

    get yourself an external HD or a large capacity USB pen drive and back up all your personal/important files/folders rather than using the D.

    Then at your leisure, format your HD, remove both partitions and then start afresh.

    Hi all. Just done it. Took 3 cd,s but probably used part of 3rd.
    Always used this method, windows, just wasn,t aware it was the same because it auto went to D for some reason, and I,ve never used D. It,s just wasted space on my pc.( a lot).
    I tend to get rid of dross, don,t like pc cluttered.
    I will get a pen, now I know what size I require.
    I,ve got OS cd,s
    Thanks for everything, you to santer, et.al
    another problem you,ve helped me with:beer:
    PS; How does one re-format HD so that D drive isn,t so large, or have just 1 C drive, if that,s what you mean.?
    My pc is 3 years old and C drive has 66% free space, and D is empty, apart from the back up i,ve just done;So don,t hog a lot.
    No music,
    I have pics on a back up I did ages ago, but haven,t put back on.Would like to, even if they go on D leaving C alone?
    or, removing D all together.

    Depending what recovery CDs you have you should be able to delete partitions before Windows is installed. There no real issue if you have a second partition, but as previously mentioned, if there is an HD failure, then the second partition is useless, unless it's a completely separate hard drive, which is not the case in this instance.

    I personally prefer having one partition, i.e. a C drive only, if there is only one physical drive.

    I bought a copy of the OEM OS when I bought my pc, but when I restored it back to factory settings, I used Acer,restore, not my discs, that worked fine, apart from all windows updates, which went on forever.
    Can pictures be stored on D solely, as they hog most of the C drive. ?how is it done, and accessed after, rather than re-partition,is there a link to read,? Thanks for reply, much appreciated. I doubt i will use all C drive up before I require a new pc, especially if I can use D for jpegs

    You can store what you like,ie. pictures, music etc. on either C or D drive.

    What I used to do when I had a pc with both partitions, was to go to My Computer, and open up a window for C Drive, and simultaneously one for D drive, and just 'drag and drop' whatever files I wanted to move.
