Hi Guys. Just done a windowsback up, never used it before, assumed it would let me save to CD.but it has saved it to D drive?
and it,s scheduled itself to repeat on a weekly basis.
I have always backed to CD/DVD, but cannot remember what I used, freeware,
What,s the difference of D drive, and is there a free back up to CD I can use. Have NTL on.Had a cloud 1 on, but lost it having to restore pc.surely, if pc crashes, D drive backup goes as well, or am I wrong?
any advice to backup, would be appreciated.

    Did you check the save to options, or are the drives not listed?

    I doubt you can save your whole backup onto a CD, let alone a DVD. I would suggest you use an external hard drive or large USB pen drive.

    The whole point of the D drive is the recovery drive. Your PC is partitioned, so if Windows on the C drive goes nutz, then you have the recovery partition (D), to fall back on.

    But if the hard drive fails both C/D partitions will be lost

    Hi, I used to have Mozy on, and it did it auto, just files/pics.Is windows backup, supposed to give option to save to disc, etc ? I don,t have a great deal on pc. .
    Windows didn,t give me an option to save to other than D.
    I just let it run, first time, presume it,s not doing any harm.
    Going to get a large USB pen, mines too small, same as CD.
    Used DVD before. Nero,s time expired,and I have NTI on, but never used it before, came with Vista.
    I have backed up numerous times, on cd, sometimes 2, but cannot remember what I used, sure it was windows.old age creeping in .

    I personally don't bother with backing up anything other than important files and folders. I think it's personally quicker to install a fresh copy of your OS from scratch.

    Hi santer, didn,t give me a choice, but did say cd etc, but auto went to D .so I just let it run. I like a hard copy, just in case, you know my history on here.Had to do factory restore not long ago, but survived without putting anything back on, I,d backed up. Pics mainly.

    Hi, that,s why I can get it on cd. No good backing up all the crap , just what I don,t want to lose.pics, certain docs.The free Mozy allowance was adequate enough for what I required. Just wondered about Windows asI have never used it before. Should I just let it back to D weekly, there,s nowt else on D, and C is 66% free, so that shows you how much I save;

    I would if the room is there, and having back up in different formats can be a good thing, also keeping them in different locations.
