thanks for the replies guys. ive had a look at the link to buy planting garlic, but its a bit pricier than i can afford at the mo, so i'm just going to bung the supermarket cloves in and see what happens!

    thanks again!

Edit: I also thanked everyone whilst logged into my sisters account by accident- thats why you've all got 2 thanks! :rotfl:

    Tankgirl,

i have some garlic cloves, from an organic planting shop, they have been outside for the past month and i am going to plant some out this week, if you would like some let me know your address and i will put some in the post as i have too many for my garden alone. I also have some onions if anyone wants to swap them?

I've grown courgettes in grow bags for many years - one per bag, the foliage soon covers up the unsightly bag.
Hmmm.. I might go and grab one of the organic grow bags for 99p from Aldi before they all sell out then!
  • I have grown courgettes in both large pots and in the border of my garden.

In truth, the crop from the ground is much much better than the one in the pot - but for several years I could only grow in a pot, and assuming that I was religious about watering, feeding and regualar cropping, I found the crop was more than fine for us.

    Good Morning all :)

I have recently moved house now have a garden :j

My garden isnt massive but i thought it would be cost effective if I grew some things of my own, mainly herbs etc.

I have ordered some garlic - called something whites... I just wanted to know if anyone have tried to grow garlic in planters? I was going to plant some in the flower beds and some in planters to see how they did.

Just wondered if it is worth putting them in planters/pots?

    Many thanks :)

I did mine in planters this year - first time I've ever grown it. I read somewhere that you've got to make sure they don't dry out too much, without waterlogging them.
They turned out a bit small, (I think because I used garlic from a shop rather than sending off for bulbs, and I didn't put them in till the spring), but tasted very nice, so I've just put some more in for next year.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Yes you can grow them in pots. Plant on the shortest day and harvest on the longest day is the old adage.

Sorry if no-one answered you, I guess our fingers are all too cold from working outside in the cold!

    Thanks for your replies :)

I read on the packet to be planted around now as long as the soil isnt too wet or frosty. Do you think its best to wait till spring?

I am such a novice at this so sorry :o

I planted my garlic bulbs around a month ago and a few of them are sprouting already! I think they benefit from a frost over the winter months and should be ready for picking in Spring.
