Have you actually gone round and knocked on the door and spoken to them? Thats what we used to do with neighbours wasnt it? ;)

If that doesnt work get some advise from the council and if that doesnt work then air rifle will do the trick. They will soon get bored of replacing it :D

I would also go and speak to them.

We have recently put up a motion activated light on the front of our house, after my husband was attacked coming home after dark from work one evening on our doorstep (he seems to have disturbed a gang who were trying to break in/casing the place). We did speak to our next door neighbour however and said we would re-angle the light if it caused them a nuisance, and would do the same if any other neighbour came and said that it was shining into their windows. I am not sure however that we would remove it completely if the only thing which annoyed the neighbour was the fact that it went on and off if it was not directly shining into their rooms, as I think there is a balance to be struck between personal safety and aesthetics. My DH had a head injury and was badly cut and bruised, needing hospital treatment, when he was attacked, so for us it would not be an option not to have any outdoor lighting at all.

I would speak to them first, perhaps they aren't aware of the problems its causing you. If they are rude or unwillingly to change it have a word with your local Council.

We've had problems in the past and spoke to Environment & Noise Protection as it counts as light pollution. They can come out make an assessment and follow up with the neighbour if necessary.

Just go and ask them politely, perhaps they didnt get the note or they forgot to deal with it.

We have a sensor light on our garage facing up our driveway and we had a neighbour from behind the garage and over the back garden pop his head over the fence one day and ask if we could re-align it as it was shining into their loft conversion window! We simply appologised and moved it down a wee touch solved the trick. Would never have thought it would reach so far!

The next door neighbour who shares our driveway / neighboour opposite us hasnt ever complained and its these I would expect to have had problems with it, but would be happy to help. I wouldnt be happy knowing it bothers them as much as I wouldnt be happy if theirs bothered me.

If you get nowhere try the council or CAB for advice.

    :)

As far as I know - there ain't much you can do....

There most certainly is. It's called light pollution and as others have said you need to contact your local council, read this for info:

    http://www.environmental-protection.org.uk/neighbourhood-nuisance/light-pollution/

We had similar issues with the people across the road who's light shone into our bedroom, repeated requests to alter the timing or change the angle were ignored. In the end we told them that they either sorted it ASAP or we were going down the light pollution route with the Council. Never had a problem since.
