(I think the mention of Word in an earlier post was a red herring, TBH).In fact, this is really my beef - the site at present prevents you changing any imported or quoted text to the default, mainly due to the fact that Verdana comes lower in alphabetic order than 'I'.
if there's an issue you could just highlight the text and click on unformat or simply manually delete the font tags0 -

MS Office does add some fonts to the Windows system ones, but the fonts we use here are a limited number which seem to be defined by vBulletin.
It doesn't use font tags in the reply window. There's an 'unformat' button?
If you're copying and pasting an imported quote as you said in your post, the font tags would appear if you click on the switch editor mode:
