    YET ANOTHER......
Dodgy car dealer wont give me my deposit back thread.

Answer : No they wont, even if you sue them your money is GONE.
NEVER pay a deposit on a second hand car you are not prepared to loose if EITHER side backs out.
Take cash, inspect + buy in 1 go
    If its gone, its gone.
Anybody would think that second hand cars are in short supply.

Have you read the thread or jumped in as usual. He's got his money back.

No problem, I have contacted my bank, I explained I gave my card details to the dealer as a gesture of goodwill but didn't give him any authority to withdraw funds on a cardholder not present basis.

They have agreed to reverse the transaction.

    Result.

Just had another thought on this, besides the fraudulent side. Reports of unauthorised transactions run a risk of the dealer losing his card processing facilities - so your lie could cause him some serious problems.

There's moneysaving, and then there's fraudulent conning bullsh*t at other peoples' expense. Don't expect much sympathy, or ask for advice, for the second of those if the dealer goes all-out for you but please do post to let us know if he does because it's always nice to see a little justice.

It does not matter if he read it or not, his advice was good...I would never put a deposit on a car.

To be fair £250 is about all you pay for yours.

I just came back to post about that myself! Very true. The op could cost the dealer their ability to accept card payments and cause all sorts of problems. Worst case scenario the dealer could even fold all thanks to the op who was to up themselves to realise that a deposit is a one way payment. Really selfish isn't it - you pay a deposit to hold a car that you want not to grumble that you can't get it back.

I would but only if its a car that I want 100% with no doubt or risk of backing out etc. There is one mae/model of car I've bought 3 times blindly and will no doubt do so again too and I'd have no problem with being asked for a deposit for it. I paid for the 2nd one totally blindly - payment straight into the dealers account and picked it up a week later.

OP certainly does appear to be a liar and a knob going by this and his previous thread.

Verbal contract, OP broke said contract, ergo OP should be the one losing the money. End of story.

So what happened to the dealer only being able to charge the customer for his actual losses, and being obliged to refund the deposit otherwise?

As has been said in many previous threads?

If the dealer had played fair originally, I think the op may have had to had acted differently.
