Lloyds TSB are taking the ****

I got my offer of resolution letter on the 3rd January.
I was told I'd be refunded around £5000 from 3 separate loans with PPI.

It's now April, and still nothing. Every time I phone I'm told they don't know how long it will take: "it could be weeks, months, or even more than a year" apparently.

What gets me most is that I can't help but suspect if the shoe was on the other foot, and I owed THEM that amount of money, they'd be pursuing it with more vigour, and I'd probably have had a court summons by now.

I don't have any other loans with them currently, so I don't see why this is taking more than 3 months, when my letter said the payment would be made "as soon as possible".

Is there ANYTHING I can do? Is it even worth pursuing this with the Financial Ombudsman, or threatening them with court action? Or is my only option to sit back and wait (a few months/years...)?!!

Most frustrating.

They are slow and that is not good but the problem is that the other options are slow as well and could actually increase the time. If you take it to the FOS then you get stuck in their queue for the next 6-18 months. Court action is possible but if it is a goodwill payment rather than an actual acceptance of liability then they may withdraw the goodwill offer. Or if you got lucky and it was an auto-uphold they may decide to look at it more closely and find they shouldnt pay out.

I suggest you contact them again (note the name of the person, date and time) and tell them that will you take it to the FOS if you dont get your money soon. That will cost them if you do that and its going up to £850. So, that may persuade them to speed up.

  • If anyone cares, I finally received a cheque this morning for £5072
This was 98 days after the initial complaint acceptance letter, and included additional interest.
  • well done, at least you finally got paid! Albeit late. I find Lloyds difficult to deal with, as dunstonh mentions when I ring I always ask for the persons name etc and inform them i am writing down all the details. Blackhorse (part of lloyds) however have been really easy to deal with.

  • Sorry, I didn't mean that to sound rude!
I'm pleased I've finally received the cheque, but I had a fair amount of hassle phoning them up and chasing them. No one at the PPI centre seems to know how long things will take, nor have the power to do anything about it. It really is just a waiting game.
Furthermore they mistakenly resent me a new offer later with the incorrect total amount following my complaint, which added to the stress of the whole waiting game.
It's a good job I wasn't dependent on that money, like I assume some people are who are waiting. I wouldn't have minded so much waiting a bit longer in principal, had I known it when the money was coming. At least that way you can plan for things, and it isn't as stressful.

The things that angers me most is the double standards. I'm quite sure I'd be in court and/or blacklisted by now if I owed them that amount of money, and took that long to pay them.
Lloyds really need calling into account over this by the Ombudsman (Or whoever else needs to slap them on the wrist or fine them). Customer service this poor in relation to the PPI ruling is simply unacceptable in my opinion, for what it's worth.
Anyway, at least I finally have the cash and feel that some justice has been done in terms of all of the PPI money I was ripped off over the last ten years. Closure at last.
(I also received a cheque for over £1000 from Halifax who were the complete opposite: prompt and efficient customer service).

Good luck to everyone else still waiting, and thanks for responding.

I'm still waiting since 6th December 2011, they fob we off when I ring and I have written to them again and told them to hurry up! They made an offer on 6th December for £6500, I don't understand why it takes so long between making an offer and writing and cheque, I just hope they recalculate the interest for me too!

Thats a short wait compared to me... 8 months and counting after Lloyds mess up over sending my cheque to the Solicitors even after being told 4 months prior to this I was taking the claim on myself!!! My claim was presented to them in Febuary 2011! :(

lloyds may not pay out on mis-sold PPI if your claiming on it as the policy will be cancelled.

I think it was because you said you were claiming on the policy. If you have claimed or in the process of a claim then that claim will taken into account (if old claim) or voided (if new claim) if you make a complaint.
