Hi Hullram,
I'm on the dark side as seen ont his forum. But i tend to try and be a good guy in the parking world.
The only sure stop way of controlling access is a barrier. There is no two ways about it.
Whilst a company (including mine) can come in and offer enforcement as stated the parking "tickets" are unenforceable in the majority and clamping just keeps a car in the space even longer so in this case is pointless.
Your concern is about the barrier slowing people to get into the site and causing obstruction on the highway. I would suggest you do the opposite and get an exit ramp. A mechanism where people can enter the car park without delay (the ramp lowers when approached from the outside of the car park). Then on your reception desk (or another easily accessible area) have a box of tokens which the driver takes one as they leave and pop into the ramp control unit to let it drop. Those who aren't permitted wont be able to get out as they wont have been in and got a token. They will then come in at which point you inform them it is £20 for parking for non-members (or club users to prevent members abusing it too)
If they want to exit they will have no choice but to pay providing some clear sign is in place stating "non members will be charged £20 for parking" but this must be shown before the car drives in over the ramp.
If you want you can PM me on here and i could give you a call to run you through some things.

From a civil point of view placing one of these stickers on a window, regardless of which one, would reasonably prevent the vehicle from being driven away immediately and would amount to a trespass to goods in the same way as applying a wheel clamp. Given that it is the view of the courts that such situations as arise that drive people to employ methods like this are actionable themselves then that is what should happen and self-help (which is what applying extra sticky notices is, in effect) could not be justified. If the court got a whiff of a suggestion that the notices had been designed to be "extra" sticky then I'd doubt that many judges are likely to be too sympathetic. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -
At first, the exit ramp sounded good, but ...
... what if a solicitor drives in, park his car, b*gg*rs off down the shops, comes back ... and the club is closed? The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

Easy just have a sign that says car park locked at 10pm or whatever it is.0 -
A local bank had these ramps to make people drive the right way through a car park. They had to remove them when a pedestrian went head over tit over them and claimed compo!
There could be a problem if the public walk there.
Regarding the stickers on the screen The Royal Liverpool Hospital used to do that, but one day done it to a solicitors Bentley and were sued for damage.0 -
The option with the exit ramp is twofold. Make it so the ramp is only 50% across the exit so entrance and egress is easy enough on foot. And also put a warning sign "Pedestrians proceed with Caution! Ramp raises without warning and may cause injury"Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
