Noisy Sky box!

Does anyone else have a noisy Sky box?

We have a Sky + box donated to us by our neighbours before they moved out and its developed a rather loud HUMMING sound It's quite annoying when trying to sleep at night as its in the bedroom. We recently swapped over our very old original standard Sky box which never made a sound. At this rate think we may switch it back!

We also have another Sky + box which was installed by Sky a few years ago and this has always been noisey and starts up on its own at random intervals (assume its just updating?).

Anyone else with an annoying noise? Thanks

As you probably realise its the hard disk drive making a noise. The old boxes had very squishy rubber feet to dampen the noise a bit, nothing you can do about it apart from trying another box.

My Sky+ box also made an annoying whine occasionally - appeared to be a sympathetic vibration in the thin metal case - I sit it on a piece of soft foam which reduces the noise considerably.

A humming sound can also come from the fan(s) within the Sky+ boxes and can get louder over time as they get clogged up with dust and fluff. So possibly worth opening the box up and cleaning the fan and ventilation slots.
