Finally going to learn web development and the only way I think I can sit down and do it is via a tablet at work on breaks and at home.
Cannot afford an Ipad 2, can anyone recommend a cheap tablet that does the same type of things ie. Plays video, full internet, wifi etc? But it has gotta be around the £100 mark.
Looking to learn by playing Lynda.com vids so needs to play Quicktime movies.

Nothing that you'd enjoy using. Plenty of things that'll give you hours of frustration with poor battery life, far from accurate touchscreen and slow performance.
I wouldn't want to do web development on a touchscreen. You need a keyboard. Buy a used netbook if you want portability.0 -

Agreed.
Several of the 'Android' brigade at work have bought a succession of cheap, and not so cheap, tablets to play with or as iPad alternates and not one of them has been much good. Even they've had to admit that the cheap tablets were dreadful. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
OK, so the cheapest of the cheap tablets aren't great, but are there any decent alternatives to an iPad that are cheaper though not sub £100? I wouldn't have expected anything half decent under £100 anyway!0

But why tablet and not netbook or notebook? What can the tablet do that those cant? Isnt tablet just a marketing hype?0 -
I have a notebook. Not handbag sized enough! Also, I am a TV producer and would love to have a tablet tucked in my handbag with films on that I could show people. A photographer I know whips his ipad out at events and shows his photos and I always feel inferior standing next to him!0

I see. Well, what about those small netbooks, they are less than half the size of a notebook, and have bigger screens than most tablets. I think a netbook is handbag sized? I also think they are more powerful than tablets, although not sure. 0 -
I want a tablet! My netbook is tiny but it's still clunky and heavy and I end up not taking it anywhere as a result. I like the look of the Blackberry tablets - I know they get mixed reviews but I absolutely love my Blackberry phone. Gutted that they're being beaten out of the market.0

iPad 2 but as I said, you do not want to be doing web developing on a touchscreen. When you bring up the keyboard on screen it wipes out the bottom half of the display as you type. So you'd need to buy a keyboard which is more than half your original budget.
In addition to that, if you are doing web developing properly, you need to test your code on all four mainstream browsers and the second most popular isn't even available on Android or iOS.
Its not a go-er. Tablets are OK for a lot of things but this is not one of them.0 -
I bought a hannspree tablet, was about £160 , thought it was brilliant, then went and put a custom rom on it , worked well until it crashed...... now i saved up and got a new ipad, wished i saved up ages ago cos its absolutely brill!0

I'm not the OP. I do my web-developing on a proper computer in the privacy of my own home! Just want it for showing my videos and the occasional bit of web-browsing on the train!0
