Week off...want to go away!

My fiance and I have a week off at the beginning of June, we want to go away during it. We did think Haven type caravan holiday but they're all so expensive, even in June.
We're in Kent and can travel. I'm thinking maybe Cornwall as I have lovely memories of it as a child. Nothing is definite though, does anyone have any good (cheap!!) ideas of anywhere/how to get it cheaper? We're not really fans of walking and we would like to be close to pubs etc..

We don't want to spend much on it at all.
Thanks

  • Travelodge are normally pretty cheap as are premier inn
We've found holiday inn to be a great budget hotel and most include a basic breakfast. This link also give 3 nights for the price of 2.
Normally all the above are pretty central :-)

Thank you, I should have said though that we would rather it be self catering :o
We have a budget of around £200 for the both of us.

Less than £30 a night will get you a pitch on a campsite, but not much else.

Many holiday parks, Haven and the like, have privately own holiday homes which are invariably cheaper.
One place to look for them is directholidayhomes dot co dot uk
There's more, I'm sure others can make suggestions.
It might also be worth having a look in your local paper as some non-tech-savvy people like to advertise their holiday homes in those.

Self catering is what I always do when I go away. Seems to a lot cheaper than hotels, and you get a lot more for what you pay. You might be able to find something on a site like pureholidayhomes.com. They've got some deals/bargains. In terms of places to go, I love Cornwall too- lots of childhood memories there and it's a lovely place. I always stay around Bude. There are enough pubs and a few supermarkets around, and lots of lovely beaches. Edinburgh's also great- self catered properties there can be quite reasonable- I stayed in a lovely apartment overlooking the castle and it was only a couple of hundred for a week- but I guess travelling there can be quite expensive. Another option is Brighton- stayed in an apartment there too- not too expensive for a few days away.

You may have trouble finding anywhere cheap for that week - it's BH week. Monday and Tuesday are both BHs. DH has that week off and we're going to France camping - it's generally cheaper than UK, particularly if you don't want the all-singing, all-dancing type sites.

Municipal sites are generally about €10 p/n. Not sure what ferry prices are likely to be then as we're going by Eurotunnel, courtesy of Tesco vouchers (had to pay about £7 on top).

PS Just had an e-mail from "Ferrycheap". Ferry fare £55 return, any time, any date.
