I once was offered a job about 3 weeks after getting rejected for the one I applied for - clearly rather the exception than the rule, but it does happen now and again!

Yes but a lot of the time an employer says this, yet when they get a similar vacancy a few weeks later they will just go ahead and invite 100's of candidates to apply again.

If they state that they will keep your cv on file until another vacancy comes up then they should mean it.

Rarely happens as various companies have mine on 'file' yet I have seen other roles advertised.

So from the path of this thread - people aren't happy when they get ignored and aren't happy with ANY response given - it's either not enough or patronising?
Don't apply to jobs with agencies if you don't like anything they do. I'm sure you would love them if they got you a job though.

"File" is probably based on some kind of keyword search - there'll be 1000's on any database I would guess. If your not at the top/not remembered for the right reasons, no chance you'll be considered.

I doubt a company (not agency) have a database of 1000's

Oh I totally understand - I got a call back from the company saying 'Remember we had you in for an interfiew for xyz job? Are you still available as we have abc job just come up - can you start Monday?'!!!

    Very lucky!

This isn't a thread about agencies though, it's about rejections letters

I would say be grateful that you have received a letter (even though it is a rejection letter :o).

My DH has been for loads of interviews, sometimes traveled over 200 miles, used a days Holiday at short notice from work and then the company or agency don't even bother to email or ring him with a thanks, but no thanks (never mind a letter!). I find this really bad manners.

I get kinda miffed with the fact you take the time to apply to a job and they don't even have the courtesy to send out a simple generic letter saying "thanks but no thanks". Getting really old now to be honest!

Can I turn this thread on its head please?

I am currently in the process of reviewing 68 CVs that I received in response to an advert for one administrative post.

I have already sent out 68 'holding' responses, telling candidates that, due to the large number of applications received, it will take me a while to review them all, but assuring them that I will be back in touch as soon as possible.

It therefore follows that in due course I will need to send out 67 rejection letters. How should I phrase these, as clearly the terminology I have used previously is unacceptable.

    Many thanks.
