If you and they agree on a price for a laptop, however large or small the amount it, you have formed a contract with them, so you have few legs to stand on. You weren't compelled to take the price they offered. Why would you think the police would get involved? Or even Trading Standards?
  • It's called fraud if they don't pay that's why
  • Anyone still not got there money for there laptop from buymylaptop.co.uk

Contact lambeth council trading standards dept they know about them
and need more complaints to get police in to deal with these fraudsters
  • Hi Jamesmufc,

I also recently sold my laptop to these people in January - and still nothing :( I've contacted Trading Standards in my area so they're currently looking into it for me.

Really annoyed at myself! I also read great reviews beforehand, and the fact they offered a free collection service etc. was so tempting.

Let me know how you get on!

I just stupidly sold my laptop to these people after reading what seemed good reviews and now regret doing it?

So do I. They collected my laptop on 30th January, and still nothing. No laptop, no money.

It was a pleasure to use this website. This website gave me the highest quote compared to many other websites I tried. Simple and easy to use. Very fast delivery of packing materials. I received the money in my account within a few days. I would definitely recommend this website to anyone who wants to get rid of old or unwanted laptops.

  • I very stupidly used this site without checking the reviews on them, mainly due to the false endorsements placed by Which and The Guardian, however like the rest have had issues with them. They do not answer their phones, have tried numerous times of trading hours, they've haphazardly replied to 2 emails, yet haven't given a reason why payment hasn't been met despite breaching their own t&c's of a 9 working day transaction.
So avoid this company like the plague firstly, this is the first time I've been conned although if your in the same boat I've now done the following.
Trading Standards UK have a file on them so contact them ASAP this can be done via the Citizens Advice Bureau.
Then go to My Gov ( google search ) and get details for opening a small claims court case, you won't need legal representation and if successful you can claim back the costs incurred ( cost £25 if opened online for less than £300 claim £35 I believe if done via post , full pricing is on MyGov's link)
Don't be intimidated by them, and do not let them get away with it if you are a victim of this companies scam.
If your unsure of how to proceed contact the CAB for guidance, they've been a god send to me.
  • I sent my laptop to BuyMyLaptop - estimated £70 which was better than any of the other websites. The courier arrived the next day as advertised and took the laptop. We didn't hear from them for two weeks so tried calling - They have never answered their phone whenever we have called. Occasionally they would give a one sentence reply to a detailed email such as "your payment has now been accepted".
After two months, they offered a lower quote of £58. We accepted reluctantly, despite having no fair reason for a lower quote.
After two more months of consistent emails with responses such as "your payment will be with you shortly", followed by "your payment will be with you within 24 hours", (and still no payment), I started threatening with legal action, and eventually, much to my surprise, they DID pay.

I would not recommend but with persistent pestering with emails and legal action, they may give you the money they owe... I think it probably is a scam as most people give up or forget a long time before I did...
