Hi.
I have an 2005 Audi A6 2.7Tdi Quattro Auto.
My pads and discs need replacing.
Got a quote from a local garage of £270.
Another garage quoted £330.
Audi themselves quoted..... £720!!
Tell em to go screw themselves, fit after market high performance pads/discs at half the price!!Audi engineers
I find this term offensive......
They're not engineers, they're trainee grease monkey's!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engineer
Engineer's do not fit tyre's, exhausts, brakes, batteries, satellite dishes, aerials, windows, plug sockets, light switches, they don't fix televisions, radios, laptops or do any other simpleton job that modern society seems to apply the "engineer" label to.......
Engineer's DESIGN the stuff you all take for granted, we created this modern world, the buildings, the bridges, the structures, the electronics, the car's, etc etc etc. An engineer know's more about his field than the average doctor/GP know's about the human body. And so what do you (everyone) do? You place them/us on a level with minimum wage, Kwikfit grease monkey's.........

........."Never confuse education with intelligence"
Not sure what your getting at........ Education does not make one intelligent, but these days the intelligent must endure education.
Many of the early inventors, the forefathers of the industrial revolution, they had no formal education, just intelligence, a logical mind and a passion for their subject.
These days and for many, the only passion and drive toward further education is to avoid work for another 6 years.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Missile: And many years ago I was told that servicing stamped by a dealer is ok, and yes it can HELP to sell the car easier, but it doesn't stop someone buying, if it is seen to be serviced regular
A full service history makes the car more easy to sell. It certainly helps dealers shift it, mark it up more. Makes little difference to the trade in value or trade price at auction once the car reaches a certain age. Doesn't necessarily mean the car is any good either, lots of things aren't covered by routine servicing they either work or they don't these days, if you have a faulty chip on a control board, for example or the head gaskets going you are stuffed."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... I have a feeling my initial garage are doing me a good deal.
They suggest it is 2-2.5hrs labour time.
They fit only PAGID disc and pads.
£144 Rear
£165 Front
Total cost fitted £309.0 -

I got a quote recently (front rear pads and discs from a "family owned" fast fit place at £365 didn't say what make of parts. Toyota Avensis.
It was broken down as 4 jobs, so on the basis it is going get lifted, assessed once, dismantled and reassembled rather than 2/4 times would expect it cheaper. Parts alone are around £160 to me, so probably cheaper trade, I was hoping to shop around at around the 260-300 all in at a local independent"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Then less than that, for a 5 year old Audi A6 isn't bad I guess.
Based on Audi themselves using either Pagid or Mintex (from what ppl are telling me), I'd say less than half the Audi price is a good deal!0 -

I'd guess about the only way you'll get cheaper than that is by doing them yourself. Even then the saving won't be huge - parts will be around £265 inc VAT assuming vented disks on the Quattro (about £230 if they're solids).
Gives an idea of the sort of profit margins dealers work on in return for their reputation0 -
I'm not a mechanic so am not touching them.
No idea if they are vented or not.0
