Advice: Trying to move Virgin Media services

Hi,

Looking for a little bit of advice from people who may have had past experiences with Virgin Media.

I signed up for a new account in December 2011 and i'm on a package which costs £38.90 a month. I am now moving into my girlfriends house in May who already has a Virgin Media account and pays £60 a month for L Broadband, XL TV and L phone, there are around 12 months remaining on this contract.

I have today phoned them to see if I can transfer my services to the new address but instead of have 2 accounts, start a new 18 month contract on one of the accounts and cancel the other one. I also advised I would be willing to upgrade the other account to XXL Broadband, XL TV, L phone and 2 extra V HD boxes to subsidise the cost of cancelling the one account.

They have advised there is no possible way they will do this and I have a choice of either paying a £280 cancellation fee or move the account to the new property and start a new 18 month contract and pay for the 2 accounts. This doesn't seem to make sense, either for myself or them as I am willing to pay the extra to raise the one contract up to the cost of 2, just on one account rather than 2 with lesser services on each.

I have already spent an hour on the phone with them but i'd like any advice on whether you think its worth spending any more time on this or just accept that they are going to screw me out of £280..

I think that if you have had the recent price increase you can use that to get out of your 12 month contract. I 'm sure someone with a bit more knowledge on this forum will be able to tell you!

Too late for the price rise 30days clause, if you took out an 18month contract then you need to stand by your obligation,

The 30 days only applies if they wrote to you to advise. I (and a few others) were not notified, so this option remains.
