Need advice guys please

Hi newbie here,

I need your advice, i just bought a new xperia ray on payg but i want to get a sim only contract for 12 months to put in it, but i don't know which company is best or data usage im going to use, i will be using forums & facebook mainly, what data does this consume ?

Also i need antivirus right ?

It has mcafee on it but i think i have to install it ? do you have to renew it every 12 months like on a computer ?

Thanks in advanced if you can help me please

Where have you bought it from?
Is it locked to the network?

Without streaming and/or downloading I think you need 500Mb-1Gb. You can start with giffgaff (O2) where you get unlimited data and 250 min on PAYG for £10. Use some data counting app to get the idea of your usage. Then you can consider sim-only contracts with talkmobile/tesco/3

GiffGaff and Tesco both use the o2 network so where there is o2 coverage there will be GiffGaff and Tesco mobile coverage.

If you like, you can compare the sim only tarriffs on a number of different networks on the uSwitch site by clicking here.

GiffGaff is ok but doesn't have a call centre if any problems incur so it may be worth paying that little bit more for Tesco mobile, or another network for the reassurance that there is a call centre at hand if anything goes wrong :)

Another alternative is the 3 network, if you go via Quidco and purchase the sim 600 (£12 or £15 sim only) then you could receive £81.82 cashback and if you factor this into the 12 months then for the £12 tarriff (600 mins unlimited texts 1GB data) it would work out at £5.18 a month or for the £15 tarriff (600 mins unlimited texts all you can eat data) then it works out at £8.18 a month.
Taking this into account, the 3 network has some mixed reviews and cashback isn't always guaranteed

As I said this above, it's the same as for O2.

You can't expect unlimited forever for one-off £10. It will be more expensive at other providers, but you can get 500Mb on £8 p.m. contract at talkmobile (vodafone).

I reckon that there is no point in paying at least 12x£4.50 extra without having any idea about your actual needs.
I have 500Mb but hardly ever use 100Mb because I spend most time on WiFi.

Thanks again for your reply guys

I got the Tesco's one wrong, it should have been,

    £10 500 min 5000 text 12 months 500MB

which i think will be best for me.

If you was browsing money saving expert for an hour how much data would you use ?

And can i just ask how the antivirus works on the smartphone, do you just install it once ? do you scan the phone like on a pc ? do you renew it after 12 months. (confused)

    thanks for your help :)

I have had my Ray since October, I have been using it on O2 simplicity, I did not bother with installing any antivirus (but like you say mcafee is available but I didn't bother installing it) I use mine for banking, emails, calender, MSE , FB and other forums, plus tvcatchup and weather widgets plus BG and Npower apps oh and what's app plus other apps too, the one month I purposely did not use wi fi at all and got the usage up to about 800mb, autosync and update are off, battery life sees me 2 days more often than not
