Education really mucked up.(Nurses, Medics, teachers, graduates, PHDs),

There really is a complete muck up in this country we have trained too many Medics, teachers, nurses, graduates, PHD holders for available posts.

It seems completely crack pot that here in the UK we have this huge over training of people when other major nations like the US and Germany, sweden have similar/ higher levels of training in their countries and yet they are crying out for well trained, educated people. There must be a real flaw in the British economy that it seems unable to create jobs to meet the skills level of its workforce when other major countries can.

Why does the Government keep saying we need more and funding more and more medical school places, undergradate degrees, teacher training, nursing courses when the economy just does not need any more of these people?

I would disagree in saying that we have trained too many Doctors or teachers in subjects such as Maths/Science. However, it does seem all to often that the government is seen to encourage EVERYONE to go for a qualification, thus the shortage of jobs. Hopefully in the future school-leavers will tend to go for vocational training as much as university education as it is only that way we will be able to fulfil our needs as well as ensuring everyone has a job... it's a joke when you see people with a degree working in a call centre, what's the point?!

When I was looking at university no one ever said anything other than university as a way forward given my grades. No one teachers, careers advisors ever made out there was any other choices. It was always university with good grades was the way forward and do me a world of good.

the problem with the doctors, as with teachers, is that some specialities are overflowing and others need people desperately. the handling of this has been pretty bad, but given how many highly qualified doctors and nurses from abroad are being recruited, it's not as simple as saying there aren't enough jobs! it's more complicated than that.

is this not a discussion for the arms since it doesn't really have anything to do with moneysaving?

The Government are actually crying out for teachers in subjects such as Science and Maths as there are not enough. I also personally believe that there can never be enough doctors trained...and there never are!!

It seems a students issue in the sense that it relates to them.

Sure it is not as simple as 22,000 joniour doctors posts and 31 000 applicates. But really every doctor, nurse, teacher who can not get a post is a huge waste to the nation and to the tax payer.

  • It's very simple economics...

few gradutes = graduate jobs are well paid, but less people get the chance to get one

lots of graduates = less well paid graduate jobs, but more people get the oportunity
