I was pretty much joking, but I know so little about all of this I am just quite worried about it. I know obviously none of you are condoning this, but it just feels wrong to ignore a parking ticket...

The only thing I don't understand, is WHY they don't have a leg to stand on? I parked on their land where they charge for parking and didn't pay - why do I get away with it? If anyone could answer that just so I understand fully i'd be extremely grateful and will let you call me a total spaz idiot for not working it out myself.

    Thanks again :)

It's because of the amount they are trying to grab. It's not like they are asking for the parking charge you didn't pay, a few quid? That would be OK of course.

A huge charge, like on any fake PCN, is clearly a disproportionate penalty...unless the signs were very clear & watertight to show that the amount was a contractual agreement to pay it. Unlikely in a P&D car park, much more likely the signs make out it's a charge for a 'breach of terms' = a penalty!

Very rare to see a sign that fits the bill 100% to enforce a fair contract to pay up - and even if there was one, most PPCs never do court. They rely on idiots and gullible people just paying up like sheep.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If you get a real ticket- that is, from the Police or a Council- no one on here would ever tell you to ignore it because that would be wrong. So you are not being told to ignore a "parking ticket". You are being told to ignore a FAKE parking ticket- one that has been dressed up to look and sound official when, actually, it is nothing of the sort.

Unlike the Police or Councils, these scammers have no laws to justify what they do. It is just a massive "try-on" and the only reason that they succeed in too many cases is because people get fooled into believing that they are legitimate when, actually, they are not.

You are now one of the converted- make sure you tell all your friends so they won't become victims of this con.

But you did pay you had a meal and paid for it, if you had purchased a ticket they would have knocked it off the bill.
If you had parked and not used the Harvester you would owe them £1!

If you ordered an 8oz steak from Harvester but when it arrived it was a 4oz steak you would expect to pay half the price! Do you think you could charge them £65/85 for not fulfilling their contract of supplying an 8oz steak? :p
  • Thanks everyone, I feel much more confident about it all now.

How are they allowed to get away with this if they are not allowed to charge you the ridiculous amounts for not paying for a ticket?

The DVLA make something like £3M a year selling data to the private parking companies. I can only surmise (although this is obviously just my opinion of course!!) that the government don't have a problem with all this.

Because they target drivers like you and me, not political party contributors.

Because what few cases that have made it to court are in the lower county courts, which don't set legal precedents.

(By the way, in the only case I know of which the PPC won, the driver blew his own case out of the water. He is also a suspected "stooge" for the PPC.)
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
