But that will just increase your monthly tariff costs-it doesn't adress the matter of why you are incurring these excess charges and what they are actually for-that requires you to go through your bills.

She is going increase my minutes from 600 to 800 which means that instead of paying £18.53, it will be £23. I dont mind just a few quid more if it means avoiding going over my minutes and being charged 40p a minute thereafter.

She just said that I need to wait until 12th April which is when tshe will put the change to the tariff thru, so I guess until then my phone will be suspended.

Still wish I never changed. Before I changed my phone in September/Oct I only had 400 mins talktime and it cost £15. This was more than adequate, so lord knows why I cant manage on 600 mins.

Which is why I suggested that you go through your bills and determine where you are going over your limit. If it's on data, then increasing your talk tariff will not help at all.
It will also not help if you are phoning nos. that are outside your inclusive allowance, as appears the case with the £13 call you mentioned earlier.

The lady looked at my bill (the one for March). She said up to 26th March I was within my allowances, after this and upto today (my renew date) I was charged 40p per minute for every call. She said that going by the minutes I had used the extra 200 minutes would be sufficient to cover it. I think March was probably a one off for extra phone calls but at least it will be covered in the future. The amount over my allowances were all voice calls no data, although I have taken your advise and disabled it on my phone.
I have noticed that virgin do an app to check allowances easily, so I will see if that is available on my ipod touch so I can keep an eye on things.

Your help has been much appreciated thank you so much.

Just an update for the post incase it helps anyone else.

Well the 12th April came and my phone was back up and running at 8am. By 2pm I had the message it had reached its limit again and couldnt use it. I phoned up and was told that the lady had put a new tariff on at a cost of £30 which took my bill back up and over to £70. I explained that she hadn't told me about this and that I wanted to speak to the manager. They told me that they couldn't do any more but put my tariff back to the original one of 600 minutes at the old cost of £18. Fine I said if it resolved the problem. Then an hour later I got a message to say that my tariff had been removed and that I was now on standard minutes at 40ppm. Oh my god.

I phoned again asking for the contract to be terminated as they had not done what was said and left me yet again without a phone and I had had enough. They said they couldn't do that over the phone and that I had to email them requesting it.

I decided to find the email address for the CEO, and Neil Berkett came up. I sent of my email to him on the Thursday explaining all. I received a reply at 7.30am on the Friday saying that it had been passed to one of his ceo team members - I was very impressed at how quick they had dealt with my email.

Well to cut a long story a little shorter they agreed to terminate my contract there and then. I am now in the process of taking everything away from Virgin as I believe the standard of their care was nothing like it was all those 15 years ago.

At least it was a good ending and I am appreciative of the help given by the CEO team. I can finally calm down and stop getting in a state.
