Insurance claim against me after 4.5 months?

Hello all,
My car rolled into other car in car park leaving scuff on other vehicle. Time went on and nothing happened. I then asked my insurance company is there anything happening and they said they are waiting for other party to make a claim and they have to leave claim open for 3 months. Its been now 4.5 months and I have heard nothing. Is there a law regarding this claim period? Can they still make a claim for my excess after 4.5 months?
Thanks.

Third parties have 6 years to make a claim for damage you have caused.
(You shouldn't be paying any excess at all even if they do claim)0 -

Excess on my fully comp insurance policy is £450 and they say I`ll have to pay it once claim for repairs/replacement car hire etc comes in from claimant.0 -
Who is the insurer?
Quentin is correct in saying that the excess is normally only payable if you are claiming for your own damages.0 -
generally (almost exclusively) an excess is only payable on claims you make for damage to your own car
I think there is one particularly low buck insurance company that does do it on third party claims0 -

SwiftCover. I`m also NCB protected and I`ll believe I`ll loose 1 or 2 years off my NCB.0 -

Check your policy wording under the section that covers claims from third parties and see what it says there about any excess payable.

Hmm, I thought I loose 1 or 2 years if I`m protected compared to loosing all years if unprotected.0

The Swiftcover online policy makes no mention of paying any excess for third party claims.0
