Can I use 18185 calls on the plusnet line rental. I'm aware its a BT line in effect and in theory using 18185 shouldn't be a problem. Contaced plusnet about this but they could not give a definitive answer.

    Hi there,

Sorry you didn't get a definitive answer, I'm glad to say that all CPS (carrier pre-select) services will work fine on our Home Phone services, including 18185.

    Hope that helps,

    Thanks for that Matt.

Have now instigated a switch to plusnet via quidco. Hopefully this will go smoothly, though I hope because I'm moving from Madasafish that this will still be regarded as a genuine switch and the cashback will be honoured.

Madasafish is an entirely separate company within the BT Group, so that should not be an issue.

Indeed; I've yet to encounter anyone I know who hasn't been stuffed in some way when they left talktalk.

Me, they just cut off my phone for 2-3 days, my brothers business connection, they fleeced him of 200+, etc.

I am moving from Virgin Media, have passed on MAC to new provider. Virgin charge 1 month in advance and tell me I have to give one month's notice of cancellation.

However Virgin cancelled a £10 per month discount for a year when the contact was only into the first 6 months. After some hassle and contact with OFCOM, they said I could without penalty, since they had changed the original contract.

The proposed increase from virgin from 1st April was the last straw and was the reason I decided to move to another ISP.

    1. Do I need to give Virgin a month's notice of my transferring to another ISP as they broke the contact by cancelling my £10 per month discount ?

    2. Can I just cancel my direct debit to Virgin and pay nothing more to them as it does not get paid till later this month ?

If you genuinely still owe them some money, I wouldn't cancel until they've taken it. It could lead to all sorts of issues - hassles from debt collectors, etc. However, if you have already paid them one month in advance, it could depend on how much of that month is left, but as in your discussions with them and OFCOM, they've agreed they broke the contract, my argument would be that the contract in now invalid, so is the 1 month's notice.
If they take more than they should or have agreed, you have the DD guarantee and can get your bank to reverse the payment.

If you are on VM Cable and moving to a BT based line, then it isn't really going to hold up your new service. If you are on VM National then make sure you get it in writing/email if the one month is waived.

On a side note, for the Plusnet rep, 18185 is Not a CPS service, it is an Indirect Access Service, but yes as he said they do all work.
