Dial-up headache....

Okay here's the deal.....

Currently with orange anytime at £17 p/m for dial-up, Bt for landline around £20 p/m = £37 p/m.

There are packages around which could give both for around £17 p/m.

Now here's where the trouble starts. Living outside Swansea Sth Wales in the styx, the local exchange is B/band enabled and has been upgraded. When first enabled we had an engineer come out who, with a sharp intake of breath, left and we later found out we were unable to get b/band.

Since then, our neighbour has been able to get b/band.

The line comes from the exchange to a post directly between our two houses (there is no other way to us both), it then splits to go to them and us. Despite repeated requests by e-mail and personal phone calls, Bt obstinately refuse to admit that we can get b/band. This is despite when our neighbours got it,the engineer that fixed this for them confirmed there is absolutely no reason we shouldn't. Bt seem to repeat the same old thing...it is probably cos your neighbours are closer to the exchange or their are line breaks, or other such nonsense.

We have registered with every site that could possibly help as far as we know, but these don't seem to actively do anything.

Really at a loss, and we feel that Bt are limiting us and costing us unfairly for their inability to properly research our problem.
We can not switch to any b/band supplier as they will always check the bt availability against our phone number which shows we cannot get b/band.

Any advise would be welcome...this is a long shot as we feel we have done everything in our power to persuade Bt otherwise.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Try this link for checking your phone line, see what it says for your neighbour's as well. Keep up the pressure on BT, it does seem a bit daft. I wonder what speed your neighbour gets? We couldn't get bb until the engineer connected a netgear wireless router, the bt voyager routers wouldn't synch. Don't give up!
