  • Well Citroen have now accepted that the car is a complete lemon after a 3hour telephone call this morning...now waiting on a call from a manager for the next step :)

OP, if I were you I'd make some enquiries to find out if the head gasket (the major problem) is a common one on your vehicle.

Have their been any recalls, or vehicle defect reports to VOSA?

If it's common, you should be able to find something by googling the proble,.

I'm currently in litigation with Citroen over my C8, which had premature cam belt failure. This is a common problem on the diesel C8 model, which Citroen have failed to acknowledge properly, but deal with complaints on an individual basis. I was lucky to get a new engine in my car, but have lost a lot of money on consequential expenses.

Can I please have the source of your info re: premature cambelt failure? Since my car uses the same Peugeot DW10 engine (same as every Ford Mondeo, Peugeot 407/508, Citroen C5, some Volvos) I'd like to find out more about the causes.

The cam belt failure on my vehicle is common to the Citroen C8, Peugeot 807, Fiat Ulysse and Lancia Phedra 2.0HDi and 2.2HDI up to approx October 2006.

The failure is caused by water ingress down the windscreen, and through the bonnet. From October 2006, a panel was fitted to divert the water away from the engine.

I believe that on the continent, a recall may have been made by Peugeot.

VOSA have received a number of vehicle defect reports in relation to this specific issue, but Citroen have declined to act upon them.

There are numerous discussions to be found around the internet.

However, as far as I am aware, the problem is limited to the models I have listed.

OMG, that's a really bad car design then. I believe the C8 is actually a Fiat (Fix It Again Tony) "Eurovan" design manufactured by Peugeot, just different badges and trim between the four brands.

    No UK recall? Unbelievable.

Unfortunately, i don't have a credit card and used my Visa Electron to pay the initial deposit for the car :(
But did you have a finance agreement to pay for the rest of the money?
Is the finance agreement still running?
With some types of consumer credit agreements, a Section 75 claim is still possible.
Have a read of MSE's Section 75 Refunds article for further detail.

If you payed by Visa debit card then you may have some comeback under the Visa Chargeback scheme.
Unfortunately, a chargeback is not appropriate in this situation.
It will only work for a short period after purchase... up to 120 days I seem to recall.
