wild baby rabbit

Last night my cat had a baby rabbit. My kids rescued it from the cats evil clutches and it is now in a rabbit travel cot - type thing in my kitchen. Its taking drops of water and formula milk. It can moves its legs but cant walk. It shuffles around. Other than that its sleeping. It (hate saying it, its now a he?) He lifts his head up when i check on him. His wiskers are twitching and his nose moves. I know baby rabbits only have a 5% survival rate upto 6 mth. Kids initially wanted to keep it, but now understand it needs to go back home. I think mummy must be near to our house. I honestly dont know what to do? Wait till its stronger then release it near where it was found? Poor thing xxx
The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!
The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea

Nearest one is 90 miles away, have emailed them. He has totally perked up, started hopping around. Will let him out in morning, hopefully he will have his strength back then.
Its not cruel, its best for him (and us!! lol) xxThe feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

how will you protect it from the cat?0

You should really let him out now if you know the mum is near. Don't put him outside in the morning, daylight isn't good for young rabbits!
The problem you have is you don't know where the cat had him from... could be some distance & if so the chance of his mum finding him are slim.
Are his eyes open? What colour is his fur?Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
It would be better off going to a wildlife rescue, the chances of it surviving on it's own if you just let it out are next to nothing..0

Honestly? I would dispatch it humanely. Mum may well not take it back now it smells different, and it won't survive alone. Is it really worth nursing a pest to health and releasing it only for it to be killed anyway by a hunter's gun or frightened out of its wits by a ferret before being bopped on the head and fed to said ferret?0

keep it as a pet rabbit?0
