Options
I am so annoyed at these two companies. I bought a Hotpoint Aqualtis 5 months ao and its had 3 repairs already and Its broke again. I do have it insured but app repairs can take up to 4 weeks and its tough luck really!!! I just want to be able to put washing on and have clean clothes - Thats it! Sorry not much of a post I just needed to vent :(

I would say that with 4 breakdowns in 5 months this machine is unfit for purpose and you should be shouting for a refund/replacement . With that many repairs in the first year its a fair assumption that you will have more problems as the machine gets older too .
Contact the retailer and stand your ground , I certainly can't do without my washing machine for more than a couple of days before my washing pile looks like mount everest

Hotpoint/Indesit is a cheap and not very cheerful brand, you get what you pay for.
Buy a budget Bosch or similar and you shouldn't need appliance cover-a complete waste of money, as most white goods these days are very reliable.
What I don't understand though is why you are paying out for appliance cover when the machine already has at least a year's warranty from the manufacturer?-you're just paying again for cover you already have included.

Beware of washing machine manufacturers who offer free 5 year guarantees on parts, their labour charges more than cover the replacement part and that can be eye watering. I would recommend a John Lewis own brand, free 3 year guarantee on a decent quality product, do the research. No I am not a J.L. Employee

Hi Thanks all for the replies - I didnt expect any :o The washing machine is not a cheap and cheerful one at all ( well not for me anyway ) - I wish it was. Its the all singing all dancing Aqualtis with the extra large drum. It broke quite soon after purchase because it has plastic paddles not metal ones - yet when I rang Hotpoint they said they were not covered under guarantee but they would replace them this time!! I had to take out a policy with D&G for future breakdowns. I am glad i did as D&G have been brilliant, they had a cancellation this morning, came out at 9am and replaced the pump - again!!! This is the second new pump. This machine has alot of problems with it, as I have now found out :eek:but hindsight is a wonderful thing .........Hotpoint have been particuarly noxious to deal with tbh, they always try to sell you water softening stuff instead of listening to your complaints - Its very frustrating. But at the end of the day I need a washing machine that works hence I pay D&G

Must add in response to letsbehonest - I do have the free 5 year parts guarantee but the Hotpoint Engineer visit is £149 per visit

But the pump is covered under the manufacturer's warranty.
I didn't mean that the machine was cheap to buy, I meant that the brand is cheaply built and has long been one of the worst on the market for reliability (10th out of 12 in the recent Which survey).
Modern Hotpoints are just a brand of Indesit, they have nothing to do with the original UK Hotpoint company since Indesit bought them out in 2008 and closed all the UK plants-they are all now made in Italy and are badged-up Indesits.

I have been very lucky with Hotpoint. I currently have a washing machine which is 6 years old and going strong. I previously had a fridge freezer and washing machine which lasted at least 12 years. I did have to replace a fridge freezer last year which only lasted 5 years. Its replacement has been fine so far. I suppose that I will have more problems if I buy more appliances now whenI get my kitchen refitted.

As I said, Hotpoint is now just a brand of Indesit. The appliances you have that are older than 2008 would have been built by Hotpoint prior to that.

To add to my comment above 3 years ago I bought a Hotpoint it did,nt last past the first test wash as the pump just kept running,in all the very next day I rang Comet that's we're I bought it wanting a refund and they would not play, they insisted I must have one of their engineers inspect it,the blasted machine was less that 24 hours old,he then failed to turn up on the said date. The upshot of all this absolutely no more Comet ever, got refund went to Curry's and bought Hoover coz John Lewis were out of stock on the model we wanted. Next Time it's Meile, started saving now

Comet, like any retailer, are entitled to replace, repair, or refund entirely at their discretion.
There is no right to an automatic replacement.
I can't believe you went from Comet to Curry's!
