No I haven't heard anything of this, but hope it's true, they are all supposed to be following suit aren't they. Might give them a ring in the morning.

You might find this web page useful

  • I'd say it's inevitable, although I've been with EDF since it was London Electric and their online tariff for me (online v4.1) can't be beaten for my usage. Even now, using the comparison websites the companies who have dropped their prices can't beat online v4.1, but there has only been one increase and not by as much that non-online customers of any company have had to pay. So I'd say if EDF do drop their prices, it won't be by much (if at all) for online customers.

Like Martin says though, WAIT!! :)

    whats the 'online tariff'
how does this differ from the 'normal' tariff?
    should i move to it?
  • If you're an existing EDF customer, call their customer service department and ask about the online tariff. It's the cheapest tariff EDF do, but be careful as there's no standing charge so you pay more for electricity and gas. If you're a low user though you should gain; it's definitely a lot cheaper for me than their standard dual fuel.

It's meant to be done online, so no paper bills and the like, but in reality you still get a paper and an online bill. You can submit meter readings online also, and check previous bills. Worth enquiring about it if you're already with them.

I am on version 4.1 online tarrif when I look at the other tarrifs on offer I am quite shocked at the difference I cant find anything to come near it. British gas phoned me about 2 montha ago when I asked them what the unit prices were they were nearly twice as much as I am paying.

Usually there is a two tier structure on pricing to recoup the revenue lost from no standing charge, ie you pay a higher rate for the first bit of power used.
