VISTA Save ££££££££'s

Found a nifty money saving secret concerning Microsoft's Vista.

Buy a CHEAPER ''Upgrade'' version of VISTA instead of the full version and follow the steps here: http://windowssecrets.com/comp/070201#story1.

There are many stories and complaints concerning Vista's price being too high, someone had to make a stand at some time.

  • Still yet to see any benefit from swapping to Vista. It's too expensive, needs lots of RAM/CPU to run well and you will do all Microsoft's bug fixing, all for something that just looks a little nicer !!

As long as your XP is up to date and all the security holes plugged then save your money.

You need to have a read about then. Here's a couple of good articles to get you started:

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tec...3/VistaKernel/

Vista does need more CPU/RAM, but that's typical of any new OS release. And in most cases people will have a computer powerful enough to handle it. Whether it's worth the expense though is another matter.

I personally use Linux, although would still purchase Vista if the price was right. I get to use it at work and I do enjoy it. Although having said that I wish they'd let me use Linux at work :)

XP pro fine high no reason to swap tbh. You can always get the look and feel of Vista with Vista transformation pack to make XP look like Vista, no intention of lining Gates pockets anymore

Poppycat - have got a link for the Vista info pack? I've just had a quick look on the Microsoft / Windows XP pages and can't find anything about it.

    cheers

OEM is even cheaper, it's a full version and lets face it everyone needs an extra network cable :-)

    for example:
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 1Pk OEM (DVD) £120.07
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade Retail (DVD) £203.28
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Retail (DVD) £319.60

Seen this somewhere here before, Microsoft dont seem too bothered about it. I bought the Premium full version OEM delivered for about £67 from E-Buyer
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
  • From what i've read from other sites if you buy the OEM version of Vista then it ties the product key to your motherboard, which is fine until you go to upgrade your motherboard only to find Vista will no longer activate. Anyone with an OEM version able to confirm this?

Theres already patches and cracks out there for Vista, which tells me its already flawed and full of holes.

What patches? As far as I've been aware, Microsoft haven't released any yet.
