Wifi problem with iphone

I have just realised after disabling cellular data that I haven't really got wifi at home.
I thought I had as the symbol shows at the top of the home screen but when I try to access mail/internet, I'm not connected.
When I go to settings, my router shows but there is no tick to the left. Instead I have a permanent rotating circle on the left as though it's trying to link up to the router.
What can be going wrong?

Try going to settings, wifi, tap the blue arrow at the right of your wifi connection, then select forget this network.
Then try reconnecting to it from scratch.0 -
Thank you but I had already tried that and still the same.
I don't know what the following mean but beneath the 'forget this network' I've got DHCP and IP address and Subnet Mask which have some numbers in. Everything below is empty.
HTTP Proxy is Off.
Same for BootP and everything for Static is empty.
Don't know what Renew Lease would do0 -
might be worth rebooting your router & trying again.
I occassionally struggle to connect on my network & a reboot of the router sorts it.0 -
Try the following.
On your phone Switch of wifi and then switch on.
When your router comes up on the screen, tap on it.
It should then prompt you for a password.
This is normally a long string of letters and numbers on your router.
Good luckThere will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

Not sure where my reply went, what I have found is that if my touch is connected via wi fi and I switch the touch off while wi fi is still connected, I then have to reset the router or I get the symptoms the OP refers to. If I switch the wi fi connection off on the touch before powering off then all is fine.0 -
Hi Yes, after doing the forget this network, I did have to enter my router password.
I was really optimistic after rebooting the router as suggested. I now have a blue tick next to my router name rather than the rotating circle.
However still no success when trying to access mail and internet.0 -
Weird....
Since writing my post, I tried mail and internet once more and this time it worked.
Not complaining but something strange is going on.
However all sorted for now so thank you all for being so helpful.0 -

You don't want to forget this network though, the device will try to reconnect to the last known network if available.0
