Just rung the Halifax. Got a cheque for £100 on it's way although they say that they take up to 28 days to investigate prior to sending.

Just one thing you must be very specific about your open and closure dates when you ring. Other than that easy as pie.
  • I'm in Court on 26th March 2007 against Lloyds for around £1300 of bank charges. This is the first preliminary hearing. Hmm, wonder if they will attend?

The Sunday Times can accompany me to Court if they like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found this usefull page via the consumer action group website, it gives a full list of mortgage companies with contacts numbers/address for each. Most require you to telephone to discuss MEAFs!

I'm a little confused as to whether I can claim MEAF cashback, and need to see if I have any paperwork from when mortgages paid off.

In 1999 I paid off a mortgage with Abbey, moved house and took mortgage with Halifax. In 2002 I paid off Halifax mortgage but left £125 balance for deedstore so technically have not exited that mortgage.

So presumably can't claim on Halifax and assume Abbey fee was only between £50-£85 anyway according to table in article.

Yes, please let me know. We moved in Oct 99 so assume we paid it off then. But something telling me we paid it off earlier in the year, like April. Maybe we did the same (i.e deedstore) and only exited mortgage in Oct when sold property.

Will have to look for paperwork.

update : No £ due for me but gald others are getting refunds easily.

Has anyone claimed bank charges from Natwest? They must owe me loads, but i'm scared to claim as i have an overdraft with them and fear that they will cancel the overdraft and then i'll be in trouble. Also, does anyone know what the charge is to get 6 years of bank statements from them?

I paid off my mortgage with Bradford and Bingley last october. Was charged £175 admin fee and £60 deeds release fee.
I phoned them a few weeks ago and asked to talk to the redemptions dept to understand what they do for their money. Over 30mins customer services refused to put me through to that department as they knew they would tell me it takes them 15 mins! They kept saying I should raise and complaint and they would deal with it in writing. I kept saying I didn;t want to complain; for all I knew, £235 was a bargain! ;)
In the end, they agreed to write to me in response.
They sent me a cheque for ALL of it!! £235 :)
