No you don't. Step 2 tells you to ensure that Firefox is not running. The only thing you need is Windows Explorer.

I can't open FF!! and as far as I can see, I need to do so.
    paste this into windows explorer

    C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

then copy the folder (in the explorer window) to somewhere else (this is the profile folder which contains your favourites and preferences etc)

OK, but am now getting out of my depth, step 3 says, "Open the file explorer on your system and find the folder that contains the "Profiles" folder"

Where is this? I cliked on file, but it does not have "file explorer".

to backup your favourites go to

    c:\documents and settings\username\application data\mozilla\firefox\profiles

there will then be a directory with a random name, in that directory there will be a file called bookmarks.html copy this somewhere else, you can copy it back after you have re-installed.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • You'll have use another browser to look at the links posted.

To create a new FF profile: Start - Run - firefox -p. See if it runs OK with the new profile and then import settings by following the Profile Manager link I posted.

It is telling me there is no path!

As above #5, I have bookmarks but they will not open

Your problem may be that FF is still running in the background.

    Try:-
    "cont-alt-delete"
    this opens windows task manager
    select "processes" tab
see if "Firefox.exe" is in list shown
    If so - highlight it
    select "end process"
warning asks you if you wish to continue
    Select "yes"
    clear task manager down
    try to start FF again

There must be a space between firefox and -p. If you're not sure, copy and paste the command exactly as I posted.

Firefox is not in that list.

I have done a system restore back to Saturday, as I remembered I set up a Gmail acc on Sunday, the Gmail acc has now gone, but when I open FF all I now get is a white page with the mozila blue bar at the top,i.e. no home page!
