How many MBNA owned cards can you have?

I have one already but am interested in taking out another.

Is it possible to have more than one card from the same provider? If so, is there a limit?

The Virgin Atlantic white card is very appealing...

Thanks

Yes you can although what MBNA tend to do is lower a limit on one card to issue the other

So for example, if I had a MBNA card with say a £3000 limit and took out a second MBNA card, my limit on the first will drop to say £2000 and there will be a £1000 limit on the new card?

Then, if I were to do that again (a third card), the limit would drop to £1000 across each card?

    Thanks for clarifying!

Yes that could happen or they could reduce existing to £2k then issue new card for £2k (giving you extra £1k) or the opposite and reduce balance to £1k and issue card for £1k

Is there a limit though to the number of cards you can do this with?

If you don't mind me asking, was this fairly recently or sometime ago?

Just don't want to waste a credit search lol

I have two backed by MBNA,

When I opened the new card, they called me to inform me that I could have it, but if i did want it they would have to reduce the credit limit of my other one by the same amount so I would have the same amount of credit, just split between the two. They even asked me how I wanted the limits split. lol

The 4th card was taken out in August 2011,and I had 4 cards till last month when I closed 2 of them.I did try for a 5th card but was rejected but had no trouble getting other new (non mbna) cards.
I closed the 2 cards for 2 reasons, firstly because they put the rates up and secondly and more importantly in order to free up space so that I can apply for new long term 0% deals next year.

I have 2 opened in past 6 months. Virgin which had 22 months balance transfer and now virgin Atlantic black.

Tbh didn't realise that either were mbna when I applied.

I had a previous mbna that I closed about 18 months ago and a mbna loan paid off 8 months ago.
