Selling mobile credit – does it make sense?
*****Warning – this may involve maths******
I am on 3’s PAYG plan where I get 300 minutes, 3000 text and mobile internet for topping up by £15 per month http://www.three.co.uk/Home. I am a fairly heavy user but never go over my allowances. This leaves me with a hefty amount of credit on my phone which I sell about once every 6 months.
I was having a debate (argument:mad:) with a friend who thinks I would be better off just not topping up when I have built up credit and using the built up credit to pay for my calls etc, whereas I think I am better of selling the credit and using the cash to top back up with and get free calls etc. Am I right?
I use about 250 mins, 300 texts and 500mb data a month. I sell through http://sellyourcredit.com who give me 55% of the value of the credit back (I know getpoundsback pay out slightly more but it takes months to get the cash out of them).
Ive tried to sit down with a pen and paper but I am pretty useless with maths. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers guys

Wouldn't a contract mobile plan be much cheaper? For £8 a month you can get 300 minutes, 1000 texts and 500MB of internet.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

...I use about 250 mins, 300 texts and 500mb data a month.
By converting credit into cash you need just about £27 credit to make £15 topup.
Not a rocket science really.
ETA: this was assuming that after a month your £15 credit remains available for spending.0 -
if youre not getting all your money back how are you saving money? What goes around-comes around0

For Three, GPB pay out either £6.35 for a pay out after a couple of months or £6.05 for a pay out within 14 days.0 -
it seems the best thing you could spend your credit on would be
All in One 15, All-you-can-eat data, 300mins, 3000 texts
This would cost you £15 to buy so for your £15 top up you could have your free stuff then buy this, giving an average cost of £7.50 per month.
Alternatively topping up by £15 then getting 55% of it back costs £6.75 a month.
Strangely your approach is cheaper.
Mobile phone pricing is very odd....0 -
Thanks guys - looks like am I right:D.
HappyMJ - I, unfortunatly struggle to get a contract mobile. Hopefully I will get one next year.
Stampede - GPB is a cashback site and I have read a few poor reviews about transactions not being tracked. I would rather get a few pence less and be sure.0 -
I did have a missing transaction myself & it was sorted out very quickly.
It turned out to be my fault as I didn't enter the correct telephone number in my profile.
They are usually very quick to respond in my experience & have used them for a few years for daily clicks & purchases.
I've searched but can't find any bad reviews.0 -
I have also cashed in mobile credit with getpoundsback and have found the service efficient and friendly when I had a query. They now provide 2 options for paying Fast Pay max £6.05 and Standard Pay max £6.35

Thanks guys. It looks like http://sellyourcredit.com have increased their payouts to 60% accross the board. Getpoundback still pay 5p more per £10 for 3credit, but for any other network sellyourcredit are paying more for fast payouts.0
