can we offer things free on here ??

Alot of posts were deleted for offering cinema tickets etc with the blurb that they needed personal details to be exchanged and that wasn't allowed here.

But today i've noticed threads offering vouchers and cash, all asking you pm your details to the poster. As these aren't merged in other threads (like the cinema ticket offers) but threads of their own i'm assuming those who saw & deleted the cinema tickets have saw these too.

So i'm wondering - was there ever a discussion before it was decided offering unusable cinema tickets wasn't allowed. Why is it allowed in other cases? Not a great surprise people get confused about the rules here sometimes

Posting out of curiosity and discussion not that i agree with one deleting or not.

Surely it should be one rule for all?

Please refrain from requesting the exchange of personal details either on the forum, via PM or email; particularly for the purposes of selling/trading/exchanging/swapping or giving as gifts. This includes posting links to your ebay auctions, or other forms of advertising.

If someone appears to be selling items on the board it may be deleted by the board guides/forum team. The aim is to protect site users as however honourable the intention, your safety is paramount.

I wouldn't assume that lj - with the volume of stuff in MSE these days, it probably only gets "seen" if someone reports it. Even then there is a time lag on threads/posts getting deleted. No doubt many of those ones you mention will disappear at some point.

It is against the rules to exchange personal details and if a thread like this is seen then it will be deleted.

As we cannot view every thread we miss some posts.
