Advice needed re:water damaged phone
Options
Got my upgrade last October, Samsung Galaxy S2 for £25/month for 24 months. Great deal, but now I've dropped my phone down the toilet.
Had cover for my blackberry, £6/month for 2 years. But either there was a misprint online or I read it wrong, but I thought Samsung was £12 cover so didn't bother with it (big mistake, also got told by woman in Orange shop today that it would have been £6 and it's only iPhones that cost £12).
Anyway, I now have a broken phone that won't charge as it's overheating.
Has anyone been through this and know what my best option is?
I don't have home insurance or cover with my bank account either.
As far as I know my options are:
*Buy a new cheap handset and put my sim card in it (if the sim card still works that is!). I can't afford this option really, as I don't want a basic phone, that's why I bought the Samsung Galaxy in the first place!
* Phone up orange customer services and pay some hefty fee (which I was told was around £170, and then I get a new handset and start paying for care each month).
*Pay someone shifty (lol) to fix it if possible
So yeh, does anyone have any different advice?
Thanks!

Are you sure it will be a new one from Orange for £170?
I don't think so.0 -
Sell it on eBay as faulty, use funds from that to buy a cheaper smartphone such as the Orange San Francisco II, it's Android so you'll be familiar with it.0

That's what the shop assistant in Orange quoted me. Just off the phone to customer services and they said the same. £160-odd to get a new handset of the same model if I agree to take £6/month care for at least 4 months. Or £174 for new phone without the care. Not too shabby at all considering the phone sells for £399 upwards in my work and they aren't at liberty to do anything at all considering it was my own stupidity that broke the phone.
And thanks Rusty - never thought of selling the faulty one, definitely a good idea!:j WINS 2015: £110/£2015

This just makes no sense to me unless it is a refurbished handset.
Why would they give you a new £500 handset for £170 if you are tied into the contract and cannot leave anyway?0 -
I agree. But I'm certainly not going to complain about it!:j WINS 2015: £110/£2015

Have you tried opening it up and placing in a container containing rich and leaving for 24 hours?
I know a few people who have revived their phones this way.
It's amazing how many phones end up down toilets!!!
Hope it works out for youA big big thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone entering0 -
