    I ask to do at least a head and shoulders inspection, during the day. Glad I did. Last place I did this had daylight showing through between the slates in several places, and no felt.

    Last time I sold a house, the surveyor just stuck his head through the hatch. He completely failed to spot the 4 foot crack through the out side wall which I had strategically placed a box in front of....

    Always look in the loft. Ask the EA if he'd buy a car without checking the boot as well? You're spending thousands of pounds. Short of ripping up carpet and floorboards, any investigation into any and all accessible spaces are entirely within your rights. If the EA obstructs you...ask him what he's hiding.
