    morning all

back from the dentists... have had a temporary crown on.. my front tooth was really getting me down with looking all crooked and dirty looking all the time because it was pushed back compared to the other ones. - now to go back in 3 weeks for the real one.. .

pay day today.. i know it was not mse to have the crown done.. but sometimes you have to have something done if it bothers you.. and im getting married in june and wanted to be able to have a half decent smile.... ( trying to justify the 421 quid to myself i guess... )

anyhow , will be checking bank and putting some money off my overdraft. really want to get shot of it. bit concerned some posts say if i ring to reduce it involves a credit check.. and also that they might say .. no to a small bit off and that they want it all.. Hmm.. what would you guys do??

have a good day all xxx

No, I haven't seen One Day yet. I have a copy of it, but am waiting for a time when OH isn't home to watch it. Otherwise he either moans a lot, or talks incessantly during the film! lol He's not a fan of chick flicks....or muscials....or weight loss programs. Thankfully, we do share a love of a lot of other shows!

  • ouch yargo (((hugs))) that surely is a lot for dentistry but totally agree with you on paying it out. Have discussed this with my oh before. If my teeth went its the one thing that I wuldn't give a damn about taking out a massive loan to pay for (even if it was £10K!) it has such an impact on people if they have problem teeth. The loss of self esteem is not worth any money in the bank x

I agree! I had to have a crown on one of my back teeth after it cracked, and peice came away! :( It was kinda essential to eating, the overall health/strength of my teeth so I went ahead. I was lucky though, as my health insurance covered it. I had opted to pay extra that year, to have the dental stuff covered, as the previous year had cost me far too much!

Maybe it's worth looking into a dental insurance plan if you expect to have a lot of treatment in future, or if you frequently find yourself paying out a lot for dental work.

what do you think about the overdraft.. should i ring natwest and try to just pay off 250 off it .. ?

will they ask for it all back?

And / Or will this affect credit rating?

  • Loving this thread but really need to post daily instead of randomly!

Going to post todays and weekend to do list - plan of action!

    Check bank - daily
    Check surveys - daily
    Food from stores - daily
Laundry - wash Friday overnight, hang out Saturday morning (remember to shut kitchen door so I don't get wakened during spin cycle!)
Wash/hoover car - will do this at Mum & Dad's Saturday afternoon :j
Stuff to charity shop - Saturday morning
Join the library - Saturday morning
    Ebay listings - Sunday
Sort through remaining bookcase for Ebay and charity shop - Sunday
Housework - randomly over the weekend

Was hoping to have a no spend weekend - deoderant required however so trip to pound shop with only one pound coin!

I have read some chat about "envelopes"? Something to do with popping cash in them? Could anyone explain?

    Cheers!

From what I understand, it can effect credit rating if you keep asking them to reduce the limit. So, it would be better to aim for only reducing it once or twice.

Just paying off some money on it, shouldn't result in them asking for it all back. But you never can tell with the banks. My account, with an overdraft, is with Halifax. It's been permanently in overdraft since I left the UK over 3 years ago. At times I've cleared some, and other times I've used it to pay for dinner or something whilst in the UK. In all that time, they haven't asked for it back in full, and they are aware that I now live abroad. I just service it, and use it as my 'base' for transferring money over, and making the payments to the other creditors. But there is no guarantee that Natwest will act the same.

What you could do as an alternative is get a new, separate bank account (without overdraft) and have your wages paid into that. Then, each month, you can transfer over an amount to the account with the overdraft. A lot of MSE's have done this, as it helps to see it as a separate debt, IYSWIM. Plus, it means that if they try to demand the full amount, they won't be able to take all your wages from you one month, and leave you screwed. Then, if they ask to recall it, you can write to them and say it's not viable, here's my SOA, and I can afford to pay xx amount, over xx months (but I'm sure there is a more formal way to do it, explained on this forum somwhere with template letters).

I know, it was such a rush - I want to do it again! Sadly will have to wait til next month...and it may not be as big then :(

I am from the US but I moved to the UK five years ago to finish university (then I met my now-husband and that was that :)). One of the biggest differences I've noticed is how I don't need a car to get around here. It's great to be able to get places, even places that aren't big cities, by train or bus, as well as not having to pay for upkeep, insurance, gas etc.
