a moan about school jumpers

  • Only this morning I emailed the school secretary to express my disappointment in the quality of the school jumpers and now waiting to hear a reply.

DS started school last september and i bought him 2 jumpers slightly larger hoping they would last two years in growth. They last 1 term! The cuffs just fell apart and became holey, but my MIL managed to darn them back together. Yet this week i've noticed they are falling apart again and look in a worse state and a couple of holes are emerging on the sleeve of the arms.

If i hadn't have known better i would have said DS was picking threads, but i was warned about this by parents before he started and even one year some of the necklines went.

I've asked the school if they could consider using a more hardwearing fabric, as this is an ongoing problem for many parents.

If not i'll be buying non logo'd supermarket cheapies from now on, my concern with those is if they keep their shape and not go saggy.

I bought my DD a new school coat when she first started primary school and not only ironed in her name but used a sharpie marker. it went missing in the second week (she came home with another kids old coat on) and despite searching for it at school it never turned up again :mad::mad:

When she was in nursery school I once dressed her in a lovely next cardi that had been bought as a present. When I picked her up it was missing off the peg and another mum told me that a mother who had just left had taken it off the peg!!! I actually chased her down the street, stopped her and asked for it back and what did the cheeky mare say to me? Oh I thought it was my daughters it looks similar to one she has!!!"

Last week I went into school as she had 'lost' her PE top.....

Where was it? on the floor under her peg! nearly a week and she hadn't bothered looking down!

But, on the other hand, she had a brand new jumper at the start of the year.......... I haven't seen it since the first week of september.

One of my friends sons lost his new school coat (labelled) only for it to return six months later very well worn!

Just be thankful you can by supermarket cheapies.

My DD1 goes to a school that wears purple!! No supermarket stocks it at all. So jumpers, cardi, summer dress etc all have to come from the school shop, at enormous expense.

My primary used to have lilac for their summer dresses... I notice now they've seen sense and changed it to the more stocked in supermarkets yellow and blue.

Don't know if there's a Sainsbury's near you but they stock lilac school dresses. All the school dresses are 2 for £8 right now too.

I have labelled and relabelled items, iron on and naming pen uniform since my son started school, I check each time I iron it.

Just come to end of pack of labels, any suggestions for good iron on labels that I won't have to re-apply every couple of weeks?

    Many thanks for any thoughts

In my experience things turn up in the end - a few times I've had to give back some other boy's jumper, and I once got back a jumper nicely washed and ironed by another mum who said she'd only noticed when doing the laundry.

Ahh thank god my DS school is very good as my son is forever losing a jumper, or coat, or hat even whole PE kits

They have about 3 big storage cube units and mark up the boxs coats, jumpers ect then the year 6 kids sort through them each Friday and return them to the kids teachers to be reunited.

If I need something before Friday I pop in and I cant believe the amount of stuff there thats unlabeled !!
