I've just updated to Firefox 12 and my only incompatible add on is the curacao theme.
I used to have IE tab to switch browsers at a click but uninstalled it a while back. These days I no longer seem to be encountering sites which just work in IE and I never have a problem with downloads.
The exception is Windows XP update - I go to security in the control panel and update from there (it automatically updates via IE).0
