Clearblue Ovulation Monitor Help

I was wondering if anyone could help me with my ClearBlue Ovulation Monitor. I have been using internet cheapies but was finding them quite difficult to read, so yesterday gave in and bought the ClearBlue one!

Just tried to do my first test - collected urine (had waited over 4 hours and not drunk a lot) dipped it for the 15 seconds, the little test thing was flashing as it was supposed to... after about 1.5 mins the screen went blank and then nothing! It has stayed blank too! After reading the instructions it says to gently reinsert the test and try again - this resulted in the same thing - flashing test pic then blank screen!

After ejecting it now to see if there was anything i can see that there is a little blue line on the test - presuming caused by the urine?

Can anyone give me any insight to what I've done wrong? I'm a little bit miffed as the stupid thing wasnt cheap so am reluctant to test again tonight!

Many thanks :j

You can't test again tonight as it only gives you a coule of hours window to test. If you miss it, it won't read any test you insert. You also have to use your first wee of the day for the results to be accurate so it sounds like you maybe set your test window for the wrong time this month if you were up and about and not drinking for 4 hours before the test.

No idea why it didn't read the stick though assuming you inserted it correctly. When you put it in did the icon change from a flashing stick with an arrow pointing, to just a solid picture of a stick? If not, you didn't put the stick in properly and the machine switched itself off because it timed out. If the icon did change, and you are sure you have fresh
batteries in, then I'd recommend you call their helpline which is excellent.

Did you set the monitor to the correct cycle day and when you switched it on after setting up did it ask you to insert a stick?
Day 1 is first day of your period and it won't ask for a stick until day 6.
  • Sorry, think I may not have made it clear but its not the fertility monitor, just the ovulation one with the smiley face. So I presumed that I could just start whenever - I'm CD12 (CD10 &11 were internet cheapies but I was struggling to see the lines!)

Nicki - Not sure if you were taking about the ovulation test? If you were I clicked it in and the picture was flashing - it was still flashing when I tested - maybe this is where I went wrong?

I'm at work so was struggling to read the instructions without everyone noticing! I'm new to all this, can you tell :rotfl:

Oh, OK the digital tests are a little different.

Take off the cap and put the stick into the holder so that the two pink arrows are aligned, the display will then start to flash. Either pee or dip for the stated time, then put the cap back on and lay the test flat. The test will continue to flash for a couple of seconds, then stop flashing and stay solid. When the test has "cooked"after about 3 minutes it will display either a circle or a smiley face in the results window.

You must insert the stick into the reader unused and then dip or pee on it, it doesn't work if you pee on it first, then insert it.

What can happen if you leave the stick in, and don't read it quickly enough, is that the display switches off. But if you then press the eject button, the display should come back on allowing you to read the result as the used stick is ejected.

if you tested twice with two different sticks and it didn't read either, and you are sure that it was just that you didn't look at the stick quickly enough to see the result before it timed out, then it sounds like the reader is not working. I would suspect if you call clearblue they will refund your money or send a new one out. Keep any unused sticks though, as you can use them in a new reader so will save you some money if you need to test again next month.

PS - If you can, edit your title if you want more people to respond. The clear blue monitor is the fertility monitor which costs about £80 and you use 10-20 sticks in per month. The ones you are talking about are the clearblue digital ovulation sticks which cost about £20 for 7. Very few people use both (though I have done in my time) and most people using the ones you are talking about probaby don't also have the monitor so might pass your thread by without reading it.
  • Thanks Nicki!

I did exactly as you said aligned the arrows, it flashed then dipped it and waited! I know I didn't miss it because I was hogging the disabled loo at work waiting!

As long as I've not done anything wrong! I'll try and hold on from going to the loo and try again when I get home. If its the same I will call the helpline tomorrow!

Thanks so much for your help, greatly appreciated! :)
