  • Hi,

found this, don't know if it will help with your problem.
  • sorry to sound thick, but do i need to convert it on both computers or just my works one that i have receive the email and it is all mumbo jumbo

    thanks for helping
  • Assuming she typed it in MS Works, meaning it was done with Word. as word comes with MS works.

And assuming you have MS Word on your office PC, i find it hard to see why it would do this, unless the versions are really different.

But only convert the document she sent you, on your office pc.
  • sorry but do i have to open the mumbo jumbo email first or what.

    explain please

The document saved in Works format by your daughter, needs to be converted before it can be opened in Word.

Also worth checking which font was used in the original document.

If the Font used to write the document is not installed on the recipient machine it will show in the way you describe.

Try using something simple like Times new Roman and trying again (or select all that random ascii nonsense and switch to another font)

I am not famliar with Works, but my understanding was that Word would read a Works document but not vice versa.
  • okay so i need to email the above microsoft download to my home computer and then convert the document (daughter) on my home computer before emailing it to my office one

    Hi Smarty

The version word that comes with works is exactly the same as Word within office. The probably is most certainly (as said below) due to the font not being present on your work computer.

There are two ways around this.

    1. Change the font on the original document to Times New Roman and re-send.

    2. Open the original document, click on tools, options, save tab and select the Embed Truetype Fonts, click OK, save the document and re-send it

Or you could just install openoffice for free which should open it fine.

Edit: was under assumption there was no office software on the pc.
