Hi all, my account with BT ends on the 31st of march.
i called them today and after much confusion i reluctantly agreed to a new deal that was in effect the cheapest option they would offer but still a little too high, but after about 15 minutes of putting the phone down and alot of thinking i decided it was still too expensive and i would struggle. and asked BT to cancel the arrangement we had made not 20 minutes before, now they want to slap me with a £130 cancellation bill.
bearing in mind my original contract doesnt end til 31/03/12.
i have just cancelled my direct debit, and waiting for the wolves... do i have any legs to stand on??
thanks and regards

wrong thing to do.
Call them back and try someone else, keep calling till you get someone who understands that you.
You should be allowed to cancel IF the new deal doesn't kick in till the date specified.
If its already begun you have no recourse to cancel under the provision of services in the DSR's.
It all depends on exactly what BT have done...0 -
DSR does not apply to an extension of an existing contract, so yes, you are committed.
It's no different to signing a written contract and then wanting to back out 20 minutes later. A verbal contract is still a legal and valid contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
The cancellation has gone through and i feel better for it, now, i am not and will not refuse to pay bt the charges, but obviously i am disabled and live on benefits so shall i write to or call bt when the bill comes in to try and arrange a plan to pay as one lady at bt said i either pay in full or they get the debt collectors in which seems a bit harsh??
thank you kindly for all replies

It began when you agreed to extend your contract. Cancelling your DD will simply result in your credit record being trashed and the debt sold on to a DCA.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
