Have you noticed any difference getting petrol/diesel locally?

I suppose it depends a lot on when you are paid, if you are paid weekly then it might only be practical / affordable to stick in a 1/4 tank a time
Wheras if paid monthly you are able to afford the full tank at start of the month and don't have to worry about keeping money aside for rest of month - working on basis a tank of fuel does a month.0 -
I wish a tank of petrol lasted a whole month ... I fill up every fortnight, just under £70 to fill from empty - although that's super unleaded - it'd be a couple of pounds less if it was regular unleaded.0
-
I need a tankful every 6 working days - about £55 a fill now. 3 years ago when I bought the car it was £40.0
-
The 1 month, and £100 thing was a simple example BTW...
Anyway, my petrol's always on the credit card, which removes the weekly/monthly pay argument, but we should be helping each other budget on here, so all I'm saying is, that I think it's more efficient to fill and empty your tank each time, rather than small top ups. Less petrol used driving in and out of petrol stations, and I'll let you put your own value on your time, which is far longer than if you fill up.
Squeezing the weekly pay for a while might let you get a full tank built up after a while, then you could go monthly by saving the money you're not using to top up.
Eg you put £25 per week in for a month. £100. Instead of that, try to put £30 in instead each time. You've now spent £120, but you've got more fuel in the tank. Continue this pattern, and you'll hit full at some point with the same car usage, THEN you can let the tank get to (nearly) empty, save the £25 per week, THEN put £100 in that you've saved, and continue like that.0 -
If you shop in Tesco's, every so often they give 5p off a litre when you spend so much on shopping. So when you have one of those coupons it does make sense to try and get as much fuel into the car to get the maximum discount.
I think Tesco only give 1 clubcard point for every £2 of fuel now instead of £1 They must have noticed that people are spending so much on fuel now!0 -
yes gwni i do fill up as much extra as i can afford when tesco give the vouchers....up until the last spell of 5p off vouchers they use to accept 3 vouchers at a time eg 15p off but they have limited it to 2 vouchers per fill now (you may have known that but alot of my family and friends didnt and had been missing out for AGES so if you wernt aware of it then you will know next time )
my parents are in usa at the moment and dad says hes noticed the difference in fuel there too its gone up since their last visit but its amazing compared to us....they have rented an 8 seater enormous people carrier monster truck of a chrysler and are filling it to the neck for £50 ish and its a 3ltr engine lol
Just as a matter of interest if fuel prices were magically cut in half say for 3 months what do you think would happen? would civil society loose their minds lol would we spend more in shops because it didnt cost us a fortune getting there and we had a few extra £££'s in our pockets when we did get there?? would we pump some extra money into the tourist industry both locally and perhaps scotland because we can afford to fill up the car with both children AND petrol instead of having to decide which is more important...getting petrol and having to stay at home so we dont waste the petrol (as happens regularly in our house at the moment) or packing up the kids for a day or two out and about exploring new places !it takes more energy

happymummy - I'm not picking on you or anything, just confused - you told me you couldn't afford to fill your car as you're paid weekly, but then you fill up when you get the vouchers from Tesco?
More money would definitely go into the economy, but there'd also be more traffic jams, and queues at petrol stations!0 -
almillar im not paid weekly im a stay at home mum,my hubby does the work lol,i ment my 'housekeeping' i suppose you would call it.....we budget everything to the last penny really so its usually too tight to perhaps double the petrol money any given week,i do see that it would make more sense to fill up once honnestly its just getting ahead enough to do it...as soon as i wouold try i bet id have a note from one of our girls schools to say she needs a new pe kit at £95 ect lol i try not to overstreach so that i can give them extra if need be!!
more traffic jams yes true....queues for petrol maybe not so bad as people could afford a big fill to the neck once a month hahaha
I think the government should trial it lol just to see :rotfl:it takes more energy
