I can confirm the meter is a metric (5 digit + 3 digits) display.

    Hi Molerat,

I believe so. The bill stats the following:

    0 1 0 4 2

read by us 12 Dec 11

    0 2 2 0 3

read by us 19 Mar 12

    =

    1161 cubic metres

    or

    12961 kilowatt-hours

    1

cubic metres of gas units used = 1161

    2

multiply by conversion factor x 1.02264

    3

multiply by calorific value x 39.3

    4

    convert this into kilowatt-hours ÷ 3.6

    5

    giving kilowatt-hours used = 12961

    That's correct, 1161 cu m is 12,961 kWh's.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

So I guess the next step, reading between the lines is what used 1200 units in 90 days?

The past 24 hours has not really been any different from a normal day, with just 2 units reported used. Now 2259 compared to yesterday's 2257.

Which suggests the op is either commercially growing exotic plants or running around in their underwear mid winter. ;) My units for the same period was 803 and we like to keep warm, op is using around twice the average. I think some severe energy use investigation is required.

With police officers for next door neighbours, either would result in an arrest :D

Almost certainly your boiler has the capability to use all the gas you are metering. You need to post some technical details about what gas rate the boiler is set to, the heating timeclock settings, what temperature the roomstat is set to, where it is located and how you control temperature in the non-roomstat rooms. Also a quick word about the house construction and insulation.

Your remark "the past 24 hours has not really been any different from a normal day" is not tenable in relation to winter consumption, and is probably the mindset which is making you imagine a problem.

On the basis of the information posted it is no less likely there was previously some "under-recording".

If you have a combi and know the approximate DHW rating it is possible to perform a rough test of the meter accuracy. How to was explained in a recent thread.

My heating hasn't even come at all for the last 3 days due to good insulation, high external temperature, solars gains etc so not good days to compare.

I have no way of knowing what the boiler is able to do or it's ratings. It came fitted in the house by the house builder, Charles Church. The boiler is an "Ideal ICOS HE24". The dial on front is set to 50%.

The house has 3 zonal controlled areas (3 floors), each with their own temp settings. The general temp settings across the house is 21.

There is a big storage tank on top floor "Range Tribune He", but we don't get the system to heat water. We purely get the boiler to fire up when we take showers.

The house was constructed last year, brick built with cavity (i presume filled). The loaf has about 60 cm's of insulation. Eon felt that maybe this needed to be checked as poor quality construction could be something to consider.
